School of Survival

Well, there -was- a tower. Until there was an accident involving a fireball and the fuel room. Now... Not so much of a tower. More like a pile of smoldering embers. Which, of course, means that the student mages have to figure out what to do now. Great.......

    'Ugh... Is anyone there?'
Marina stumbled towards the group, a bit disorientated.
    'My head hurts.'

Her cloak is torn, and she has obviously been unconscious for a while. She still holds her precious staff in her hand though.

"Ah. Well." Eylee glanced away, suddenly a little bashful under direct questioning. "I'm a diviner - you know, a seer, a fortune teller? Most of my spells are directed at seeing things or gathering information. Clairvoyance, past-reading - a little future sight, though I'm not so good at that... Reading auras. Truthseeing. That kind of thing."

Ganokgu stopped walking for a few moments when everyone stopped talking and stretched a little bit. His shoulder felt a lot better afterwards. He let a yawn, then proceeded to say, "I wonder what time it is. I hope it doesn't take too much longer to set up camp." He looked behind him to see that the group wasn't too far behind. He decided to wait until everyone caught up to him, which took a few moments. Ganokgu noticed Haku and remembered about the school. "Hey, Haku. Are you the one that froze the school?" Thinking back, he remembered that after he was thrown through his portal and looking back. The school was frozen over in a sheet of, what seemed to be, magical ice. If it was Haku, it would make sense, he has some interesting magic. If it wasn't, then who? Someone else was bound to be in the school, we left behind. In fact, Ganokgu hoped it was Haku.

"So, we need a fire that will last, right?" Ganokgu already knew the answer to the question and walked to a near by tree to get some kindling. He snapped some twigs and branches off for the fire. Following that he asked the group, "Do you guys think this is enough kindling?" He paused for a moment to count how many he had. Then continued, "I have around 10 small branches for the fire starter, and a few bigger ones to put on top to get the fire going more. Oh yeah, after we reach the cave, I'll run back out and get a decent fire poker from one of the trees." He was satisfied with the amount of kindling he got. He believed he could set up a decent fire with the help of his friends.

A few moments later he realized what he said, "Oh, Heh... I already have a fire poker. It's on my back." He turned to the group with his hand scratching his neck and laughed slightly. Ganokgu looked back ahead and could start to see features inside the cave like the shape of the wall. "This cave is bigger than I thought."

Taking the advantage of the preoccupied group, Haku trailed off to a hill and looked towards the direction of the cave. He pulls out a vial with a dropper and takes some of the liquid of the vial, releasing a drop of it into the ground. A magic circle appears, and a purple almond shaped eye rises from the ground. Haku's right eye glowed purple as well making him able to all the way to the cave, seeing a few goblins and a huge troll.

He disabled the eye and summoned the fire familiar to change into him and take his place with the group of people while he went ahead. The familiar rejoined with everyone else and blending in, having the exact same essence as Haku. While Haku ran ahead of students to dispose of the obstacles. Being undetected by anyone.

"Alright alright..." Emily chuckled, almost surprised by her companions' determination to make sure she'd be fine. "I promise Lindel, once we get to the caves, I'll let you heal my leg. But only if you're sure you'll be ok."

Emily remained quiet as Eylee and Ganokgu spoke. She smiled appreciatively as Ganokgu supported her, though he didn't seem to be lookng around at the group much, and she doubted he'd see her smile.
"Don't worry Eylee, I don't think I'll be any worse off for walking... And don't worry about not really being able to use your magic, either. Not every type of magic can handle every type of situation... But I'm sure that when a time comes that you can be helpful, we'll be all the happier to have you around." She grinned reassuringly as she looked at the girl.
"But Ganokgu has a good question... What kind of magic do you specialise in?"

  6. Characters in this post:
After Ganokgu's idea was dismissed. He listened to the others as they wanted to help as well. 'I'll just let them deal with it. I can't really help her. And if she was able to manage to help me with Haku, then she should be able to handle the rest of the way to the cave.' He heard Eylee say how we don't need more dead weight and it was directed to Emily. "Everyone, it's not like her leg is broken. Anyway, she made it this far with not many problems. Let's just get to the cave and deal with it there." He said without facing the group, trying to be reasonable.

"Wait, Eylee. What do you mean over-specialized?" Ganokgu was curious as to what she meant by that. He continued, "What magic do you have?"

As new injuries were discovered among the group, Eylee took a moment to again take stock of her own physical state - was there anything she'd missed when first she'd emerged from the burning tower? She didn't think so, and really, she was a little amazed at how well she'd come out of this. The diviner glanced doubtfully at Emily, mentally kicking herself for not noticing the injury sooner. "You sure you aren't going to do yourself more hurt by walking on that?" she asked. "I mean, you're doing a really good job of covering it and all, but you are limping a bit. If you're stable, all well and good, but if you mess yourself up further by not accepting treatment..." She shrugged. "We're in poor enough shape as it is. We don't need more dead weight."

"If you need another shot of energy, Lindel, I'm good for it," Eylee added, looking over at the fairy with some concern. She sighed, one hand slipping into her pocket to fidget with the smooth frame of her mirror, and said with just a bit of bitterness, "It's not like my magic's doing us much good where it is, right now. Maybe once we get settled I can get something done, but I have to admit that I'm kind of... over-specialized to be much use in an crisis."

  8. Characters in this post:
"Bah! Just get into the caves, and sitting down, and I'll fix it. I'd rather pass out then have you faint of blood loss."

  9. Characters in this post:
Emily sighed; this miniature commotion was just what she'd been trying to avoid.
"Yes, but Lindel," Emily began patiently, looking at the fairy. "You can't exactly heal anyone if you fall unconcious again. And besides, if you pass out, Naomi won't have anyone to play with."

Naomi meowed at the mention of her name, though she didn't know what was going on. All she knew was that it was dark, and her playful nature was beginning to lose out to the fact that normally, she'd be asleep by now.

Emily let Ganokgu speak, and was quiet for a moment afterwards. She knew he was just naturally concerned about others, much as she was... But still, she wasn't very comfortable with the concern floating around her now.
"I'll be fine, I promise. Why don't we worry about setting up camp and getting settled, and then I'll worry about my leg." Emily said, glancing ahead. "Another few minutes and we'll be good to go for the night. Thank you for your concern," She glanced at the two, smiling appreciatively. "But I can walk another few minutes, no problem. Thank you for the offer of help though, Ganokgu."

  10. Characters in this post:
Ganokgu was startled for a seconds before he realized it was Haku whispering. "Oh?" He looked at it himself after Haku got off his back. "Thanks." He said with a slight smile. He was glad the scratch was nothing. Immediately after hearing about Emily's leg he turned to her and questioned, "Well, you must not be too hurt if you were trying to help me carry Haku. You should of said something, though. You didn't need to push yourself so hard and we were going to find out anyway." He said, slightly worried about Emily.

After Lindel spoke up, he walked over to Emily to look at the gash closer. "Oh wow, that looks pretty deep." He said with a little more concern. In situations like these, the few he has had, he always feels like he should try to learn some healing. Just so he can contribute more than just a little bit of strength. "Well, I agree with Lindel. She seems like she has a little more energy." Ganokgu agreed.

A thought popped into Ganokgu's head, 'Well, maybe I can do something? I can't heal her, but I can help her get to the cave a little easier.' He wasn't sure though. He didn't want to force help on her. Not a lot of people like that, from his experiences anyway. "Even though you made it this fa and can probably make it to the cave. Want help the rest of the way?" Ganokgu offered anyway, hoping not to offend her.

  11. Characters in this post:
"Nonsense. I've got enough energy to heal that little scratch! And healing is what I do, after all- I'm a healer!"

  12. Characters in this post:
Emily couldn't help but smile at Ganokgu's enthusiasm as he pointed out how close they were to the caves. They'd soon be able to stop, rest up a bit... And then probably head back to the school. They'd need to scavenge everything they could, and see if anyone else was still alive. Hopefully it would be more of a rescue mission than a body count.

Emily's smile continued, though faltered when Haku fell to the ground. But she was reassured when he pulled himself to his feet, seemingly able to support himself.
"Haku, is it?" Emily said to him, pulling the name from Ganokgu's comment about pulling someone from the rubble. She surmised it was probably the very same student who'd just regained conciousness.
"I'm not sure what you did back there, but you were in pretty bad shape. Are you going to be ok?" The look on her face was pure concern, illuminated by her own ball of fire. It was held there with effort, though the concern she felt wasn't a mask. She just didn't need anyone to know that she was in pain too.

Which was pointless... Emily realised, as Lindel took notice of her leg. She tried to wave it off non-chalantly, though the orb of fire conspicuously moved away from Emily, lessening the amount of light around her legs.
"It's nothing to worry about... You're clearly exhausted, and we don't exactly have very many healers at the moment. It's no big deal." Emily replied, trying to get the attention off of her. She wasn't accustomed to other people worrying about her. It was usually Emily who did all the worrying.

  13. Characters in this post:
Lindel glanced at the other girls leg. "He's right! Emily, why didn't you say anything?" she looked up at her sternly.

  14. Characters in this post:
His eyes still closed, he whispered to Ganokgu "Your arm is just fine... But you need to pay closer attention to Emily's leg... It's in pretty tough condition..." He gets off Ganokgu's back, landing on his hands and feet from still not being able to fully control his limbs. Opening his eyes slowly, Haku attempts to stand up straight and blend in with the crowd by making his horns disappear and concealing the ice on his arm with an illusion type of magic.

  15. Characters in this post:
As he continued walking he realized that his shoulders were a little uncomfortable so he readjusted slightly so he could carry Haku with more ease. "Well, Eylee, I've practice out here a lot and I think I've seen other things besides monsters. I can't remember though." Ganokgu said in response to her Eylee. He never really payed attention to explored to far, but if his memory was right then there was other stuff they could munch on.

Ganokgu glanced at Emily's fire and thought, 'I wonder if I should learn something like that, because that would be good for survival. Maybe I should ask her when things start to cool down a little bit. Maybe I could ask the same of the fairy, Lindel.' He glanced back at Emily for a few seconds to see if he could see how she was doing it. He gave up after a few seconds.

When Emily spoke to her Ganokgu was slightly weirded out, "Uh, horns?" He questioned. He let his thought wander for a few seconds and then remembered about how he cut himself and wanted to check how it was looking. Just for curiosity he asked, "Hey, can someone look at my right arm? It got cut when I was pulling Haku out of the rubble." He glanced forward to see how far the cave was away and realized how close it was now. "Hey! Look how close the cave is!

  16. Characters in this post:
"Hm-hm, maybe he's not fully human?"

  17. Characters in this post:
Emily smiled appreciatively at Ganokgu, for both taking Haku, and the reassuring presence he seemed to have. He was obviously thinking about everyone's well-being, not just his own. As she was relieved of Haku's weight, the orb of fire seemed to gain a... feel to it. It almost seemed to round itself off more smoothly, almost like there was an invisible layer over it. What Emily had done, in fact, was make it safe. The fire wouldn't burn anything that accidentally touched it.

As the red-haired woman in the group, who Emily had seen around for years but never really known, spoke about scouting the caves and roasted monsters, Emily couldn't help but make a joke.
"Well, no need to worry. I can fry the monsters too, so we'll have a bit of variety." She chuckled, then winced, having forgotten about her leg for a moment, and been reminded of it in a not so pleasant way. But she quickly replaced her look of pain with a determined smile, hoping no one had noticed. They didn't need to be worrying about her at the moment.

She glanced over a Ganokgu to check that he was still fine with carrying the unconcious student, when she saw that said student had... horns?
"Um, Ganokgu... He seems to be growing horns. I'd watch yourself if I were you, don't want to get hurt by accident."

  18. Characters in this post:
Haku's eyes open slightly to take a glimpse of what was the current situation for them. His grey eyes scanning their surroundings under his pure white hair that illuminated from the glow of the fire which Emily created. He closed his eyes and rested a bit longer until he was to be needed in an emergency. 'Just a little bit longer...' he thought to himself. His horns started to appear for he was too tired to keep them hidden.

  19. Characters in this post:
Keeping pace with the others, Eylee nodded pensively. "I should be able to chart out at least part of the caves without going too far in," she volunteered. "I mean, we'll still have to actually go in there to get what we need, but at least we won't be stumbling around blind when we do so."

She glanced back, wistfully, at the ruined tower. "I do hope we'll be able to salvage something from the tower, once we've made camp," she added. "I don't much like the thought of living on roast monster until someone thinks to come looking for us."

  20. Characters in this post:
Ganokgu waited until Emily finished her sentence before he took action. He slid to the side so Haku's chest was flat against Ganokgu's back and let his arms bend naturally over his own shoulders. He gripped Haku's right wrist with his left hand and did the same on the remaining hands. He made sure Haku's arms bent naturally so he wouldn't hurt Haku.

"Alright, that should do it!" Ganokgu said with a smile as he rose slowly. He kept his knees bent slightly so it was easier to balance Haku's weight. "There we go." He confirmed for himself. Then he started to walk forward toward the cave.

Ganokgu heard what Emily said about the cave and replied, "Of course, eventually we might have to venture in deeper for some resources, but that hopefully won't be until after everyone is in good shape." While he was talking he looked at Emily. Naturally his eyes seemed to give reassurance that everything will be alright. Of course, there will be trials and tests to come, only to make the stronger though, Ganokgu believed.
