Long black hair, blue eyes, and a flair for style. She always wears her locket, which she's oddly secretive about.
Ness has temper, but beneath her stubborn and flamboyant nature lies an honest and friendly soul. She's considered a bit of an oddity in her home of Lavender Town and elsewhere, as she has aspirations to not only become a Master Trainer, but a Breeder as well.
She's had a hard time getting support for her dream of both battling and raising Pokemon, but there are a few allies who've proved invaluable to her quest.
At 17, Ness has been on the road for 7 years, alternately training her Pokemon, studying at breeding and day care centers, and trying to save up enough money to open her own breeding/day care center. She's not averse to taking on the odd job here and there, which has led to her picking up a myriad of skills.
Ness has four main Pokemon: Pidgeot, Zigzagoon, Alakazam, and Ponyta. She frequently quarrels with Ponyta, who is stubborn in thinking that she, too, is just as fabulous (or more so) as her trainer; Pidgeot is often the one to knock them both back into line, causing Ness give them the unofficial respective nicknames of "Horse Diva" and "PidgeMom."
Pidgeot does not seem to appreciate his nickname given that he is, in fact, male. However, Ness knows that he puts up with it because of his affection for her; and, yeah, as long as she behaves.
Zigzagoon is a runt, and is still quite small for his age despite being nearly full-grown. Ness nursed him back to health when he was abandoned at a Pokemon Center she was helping out at, later adopting him. He is now fiercely loyal to her and gets very anxious when they're apart, even if he's just in one of her pokeballs that she carries; hence, he can usually be found at her feet or on her shoulders. "The Ziglet" can be shy and hesitant to battle, and seems to be one of the only things (besides muffins and TV romantic dramas) that Ponyta has a soft spot for.
Alakazam can be quite protective of Ness, as he was her first pokemon that her dad gave her. He's fond of playing games (board, card, and video) and jokes, and gets very excited at the mention of SERAPH, his favorite girl idol group.

Ness also carries her trusty bag with her at all times; she made it herself with stylish sturdiness in mind.
