H I S T O R Y
I come from a loooong line of 'Persona Knights', as I've adopted us to be called. On my mom's side, going back generations, my family has developed a way to travel to a place known as the 'Dark Realm', it's a place that bad people create and it attracts evil spirits that then influence those that created a place in this realm. Our family makes up some of those that can travel to this realm and vanquish evil and set things back on the right path, without demonic involvement. The catch? We also use demons to help us with this task.
At a young age, myself and my older sister were trained to take over the "family business". My sister being a few years older than me was obviously trained far hard. You take out the fact that we fought things that most people would never see, nor hear of, we were a normal family. We come from old roots, a traditional family at times, at least among the elders.
Family gathers are a BIG deal on my mom's side, dad's? They're more relaxed. In fact, mom was the first one in her family to break out of the traditional arranged marriage that her family still clings to. They ok'd the marriage when it was discovered that dad proved to be quite the Persona Knight.
So, whenever there's a family gather, the whole extended family shows up. It's both your traditional get together and not; traditional in the sense of the family catching up, the elders enjoying time with the grandkids and the like. The not so much? Well, if you count the Dark Realm stories, spars, weapon and Persona discussions and comparisions, it's not always the most normal. Gathers are always, ALWAYS held at the main family estate and ONLY family is allowed to attend. If someone brings an 'outsider', one of two things can happen, either the couple isn't allowed in, or if there has been proof of their assistance in the Dark Realm, they're considered family and "can never leave", essentially.
At home, we have a close knit family, partly because the family business is quite risky. There's mandatory 'family nights' where we do normal family stuff (and if you bring someone in for that, there's no rejection or trapping). There's also a lot of time dedicated to training. We train in various combat and weapon styles as well as how to handle different Personas we may come across or convince to work with us.
So yeah, growing up has been very much all the same thing. At least until the last few months. My sister was on a mission in the Dark Realm, no one really knew how dangerous it was, not until it was too late. One night at dinner, a message came across our phones (though I had not been permitted in the Dark Realm, I still had the technology needed for it). The message read out that 'Ryder has fallen'. Those three worded messages were the most dreaded, for fallen wasn't just wounded, but killed in the line of combat. Ryder was my sister's code name for this realm; there was no ceremony or mourning when such a thing happened, it was coverups and stories to keep people from really noticing.
My sister, Lexxi, like the others, did not have a mourning time or anything like that. Rather, my training intensified and shortly after, my parents began to take me into the Dark Realm to take over where Lexxi had left off. This upset me, my sister was a huge part in my life, who I was, we were inseperable and yet everyone was acting like she never existed. My parents hurt, I knew it, I could see it, but yet they didn't do anything.
It was one of those times that my parents took me with them that I got my first Persona. We were fighting demons within the Dark Realm that Lexxi had been killed in. There was a dark intent around me that it must have called him, he never attacked us, even as my parents went after him. There was a nimbleness to him that allowed him to effortlessly dodge not only their attacks, but those of their own Persona's. He called himself Nalusa Chito and he desired a pact with me, a partnership that Persona's make with those that venture to the Dark Realm for one reason or another. My parents were fearful, urging me not to, but this dark robed, masked figure, there was something that just clicked. Much to her parents' dismay, she accepted and Nalusa Chito and her became a team.
My parents called it a night shortly after, not wanting to witness anymore of this Persona. Returning to the real world, I got quite the lecture. Impa Shilup was a well known creature, a feared one at that. He was a soul eater, a shadow person. It was said that if a person let evil or darkness into their minds, he would take their souls and with their line of work, that was a very dangerous thing for one could not be pure to enter the Dark Realm. I assured them that I could keep him under control and that he would not control me, the pact had been made and without me budging, my parents worked on strengthening my mental barriers against him.
After that, the Dark Realm we had been visiting left, the man that had killed my sister in his realm gone. The main family then requested us to move, that there were other areas that required our attention more; there was almost like this feared respect that we obtained once I got Cheeto (Nalusa Chito's new name) and we began being sent to areas in more immediate need. With the main family having ties in all the right places, my parents got transfers to different branches within their business and I got a new high school to go to.
