Description: The first time you meet him, he's warm and engaging and disarmingly so. He has a smile that draws deep laugh lines and a laugh that invites you to do the same. He's friendly—telling you thrilling tales of his many adventures on Earth. He's been backpacking through the greater half of Asia; he's explored the ruins of ancient civilizations. He spent a year in Italy as a chef—he offers to cook for you some time (maybe tonight, if you like). He's climbed Half Dome; he's seen the vastness and the beauty of the Zion Canyon at sunset. He wanted to join the military, but turned back at the last second: moral differences, he says. He attended Stanford; he wanted to be a doctor, but never graduated: he was more interested in learning than simply buying a degree. And then, slowly, you realize that Evan, while smart and charming and handsome, is a man that always has an excuse. He always has a story to tell, whether it his record with the police or why he's still unable to put the bottle down.

And, if he doesn't have a story, he'll just make one up. After all, he's an exceptional liar.

Equipment / Abilities

Ability: Telepathy

He can't root around someone's mind at will and leisure; it takes a certain amount of concentration and, perhaps more importantly, prompting. It is easiest (and safest) to glean surface thoughts, which is why, whenever he divines, he always asks a question first. What is your favorite color? What did you have for lunch yesterday? Why did you murder the girl? He's good at what he does (he's been at it for some years now), but even he has his limits. Eye contact is a must—if you don't want him to read your thoughts, just look away. Intense concentration (on his part) is the follow-up. The secondary is why he can't use his powers at will and at length. Too much mind-reading and the headaches start. Insistent mind-reading and the headaches turn monstrous: migraine-like. And if he continues (which he rarely does and almost always avoids): unconsciousness. Of course, there was that time where he pushed too hard and internal bleeding almost took him down.

Skills: No particular school

Evan has never trained and, to this day, he has never seen much reason to. He already runs faster than most (courtesy of being dead) and he's stronger than most body builders (again, courtesy of being dead). So, the short answer is no. The long answer is still no. Evan will grab the nearest thing he can and use it as a weapon. If he has gun, he might hit the target and he might not. It really depends on how lucky he's feeling at that moment.

Weapon: None

History

Years of Service: 51
Memory Retained: 93 %

Occupation: Bookstore Clerk
Occupation: Fortune Teller (Friday's Only)

Before he became a Death Investigator, Evan was a wanderer. He went were he pleased and he did whatever he liked. Some of the stories are true and others are unverifiable, but almost certainly false. He was a student at Stanford, but only for two years. He had thought about joining the military, but dodged the draft—he'd rather explore Canada. He led an almost enviable life, but live cirrhosis is one helluva way to go.

Becoming a Death Investigator was—is—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and Evan, who was always a risk-taker, didn't take two seconds to think things over. He signed the contract without blinking and, in the same breath, asked to be stationed in Hong Kong. Since, he's done his job and, for the most part, kept his head down. Although, he'll still visit the bars, hit up the gambling parlors, and generally seen yelling about this or that in a smoke-filled room. Some habits die hard or don't die at all.

Regret: Everything. Literally Everything.
