Charles originally grew up as Theodore Swain, the son of an ordinary man in middle management and an ordinary woman who worked in electronics. He was a child who, by all accounts, appeared to be very polite and organized so his parents never really paid him all that much mind when he showed an interest in raising animals, boy scouts, or even baking. They all thought he was pretty normal and would continue doing so until the last of his days. Truthfully, Charles, then Theo, was bored with life and only seemed excited when he was nibbling on something sweet or extorting others. Rather than becoming a surgeon like his parents had hoped, he applied for the military and ended up working in covert ops and interrogation. As brutal as the training was he received a rush that couldn't be matched by any other line of duty (not even being a butcher). Unfortunately his usefulness passed as quickly and easily as it came. He was set to be killed for "knowing too much", but was able to escape with his life and take on a new identity. With some luck, he was able to end two years of freelancing by landing a job at a mercenary organization located on the west coast.
