Marcus tends to bring a certain lightheartedness to any social situations. With his carefree and passive nature, he makes friends easily and can usually find something to relate to in everyone. This has made him a favorite among some students of the academy but also an enemy of certain faculty members within his department. Some would say that they are jealous of his charisma, others, that the students are just sucking up for better grades. No matter the case, he's always a well liked addition to any group. His trust comes easily and he's very difficult to upset but the best way to get on his bad side is to harm one of his students, friends, or love interests. He is a forgiving person, but regaining his trust is a feat of super-human proportions.

The always smiling teacher is much different in his classrooms however. Known to throw books at students in attempts to 'train their reaction time', Marcus can be a ruthless instructor. His tests are well known to be of intense difficulty bringing some students to tears and even nervous breakdowns. Despite that fact, those who have passed his classes have seen a dramatic increase in spells, abilities, concentration and combat expertise. And all they had to do was survive a semester. Which is easier said than done. 
He has a habit of 'testing the students' patience' by arriving late to class, marking tests and assignments weeks after due date and falling asleep between his own lectures. His concept of time management leaves something to be desired, but nine out of ten students would say that his teaching methods are some of the most effective within the academy.


Equipment / Abilities
Mind Push

Marcus has the uncanny ability to plant commands, false dreams and memories into his opponents mind. This can be done through telepathy or through word of mouth, it is dependent of the circumstances of the situation. His enemy remains unaware during the length of the mind manipulation, they will think and feel as if they are acting out of their own free will. This ability lasts until the person affected is out Marcus's line of sight. He can control multiple people at once, but it requires more concentration which may make him vulnerable to attack.
His mind push cannot be used on any creature/person without natural free will or a functioning thought (puppets/machines/anyone being controlled.)
The only real limitation is he cannot command someone to kill themselves. Though he can still command them to kill others.

Knowledge of Body Language

It is difficult to get anything past Marcus. He reads a person's body so well that he can usually predict what their next move is. Things such as sleight of hand, bluffs and feints are difficult maneuvers to try and faze his senses. Though, if blinded or in an area with poor visibility, it is possible for an enemy to mask their attacks. However, if he concentrates or knows the opponent, Marcus can still foresee their actions.

Will Power

Marcus has learned to overcome the majority of his addiction, he still requires alcohol to function properly. It is in lesser amounts than it was five years ago. Because of the hallucinations and aggression he experiences during his withdrawals he has gained the ability to see through most illusions and mind tricks. His body has experienced so much torment in the past that even when on the brink of death, he can usually continue a fight. Life threatening injuries are brushed off for a few minutes, but he will eventually succumb and collapse. 

Improvised Weapons, Systema and Russian Sambo

Marcus has turned in his hidden blades for a stronger focus in hand-to-hand combat and grappling. If need be, he can improvise a weapon or take one in the surrounding area. This does not necessarily mean he is trained with it, and does run the risk of improper use. Improper use can result in fumbles, injury or even death. He still keeps a handgun in his keepsake for dire situations, but it is seldom he takes it out. His combat focus usually revolves around immobilizing enemies, through locks, grabs or breaking of bones. His strikes are precise and aim to disable and opponent by hitting sensitive areas, nerves and pressure points. He flips and rolls to avoid attacks but blocks effectively when in close range. He is well trained in throws and ground fighting.


History
Marcus was born in North America to a wealthy family advancing in the technology industry. Though they were not proud of it, they were descendants of magicians and frowned upon the culture heavily. However, out of their two sons, only Marcus inherited the genes, which remained unknown to them until his adult teaching life. Unfortunately, he also inherited the 'alcohol dependence' gene from his father. 
Hidden from his parents, his powers surfaced in his youth where he realized he was able to 'talk his way' out of various situations, school bullies, early bed times, who broke the vase in the study, etc. His family and friends just considered him a manipulative, but friendly child. It was in his teens, as he neared completion of secondary schooling that he began researching his magician lineage and advancing his powers. Realizing the responsibilities he took using his unique abilities, he decided to get into teaching to help teach others to hone their skills and steer them on a path of good. Marcus left home shortly after graduation to begin studying at a school of magic, which he later went on to teach at. 
Sadly, he only taught in the academy for a few months until the classes started becoming 'taught' and 'monitored' by robotic teachers and staff. No doubt, manufactured by his brother (whom carried on the family business 'Tormod Family Industries'). Being the lowest on the seniority list, he was the one of the first to be let go. 
Without work, or money, Marcus relied on his magic for his survival. His nomadic travels eventually led him to Russia where he met a group of like-minded individuals who taught him hand-to-hand combat and ground fighting, as well as non-magic mind control in the art of Systema.
While sitting in a local cafe one day, a girl had walked past him, dropping a pamphlet, inside were details about an academy similar to the one he used to teach at called 'Sorcerers'. On a whim, he applied and was accepted to teach Mind and Combat Strategies. The first year was the most exciting in his adventure at the academy, and he really enjoyed working along side Team Valor in their endeavors. 
The four years that followed were pretty mundane, albeit a learning experience. However, many of the staff were being laid off, fired, and ever some had gone missing. Even the number of students were dwindling, and the school was slowly decaying into ruin. The rise of technology was forcing magic users to leave schooling and go into hiding in fear of prosecution. 

It was only recently that Marcus had hopes of stopping the oppression of technology when he learned of The Brotherhood of Magic. And though he was not a member, he hoped to one day join their ranks.
