Synopsis
Mar is a lady's maid in Chiall Castle. She serves the queen.

Description
Mar is a fourteen year old girl from the village surrounding the castle. She is short and dark, her eyes and hair are both nearly black. She is thin, not attractively so, but in a way that speaks of going without food during childhood. Mar's cheekbones, chin and nose are sharp, giving her a look of constant suspicion. She has bright quick smile that proves that her face can be pretty. She is always clean and tidy, though her clothes are well-worn, they never show dirt or slovenliness.

Personality
Mar is quick-witted and humorous. She loves wordplay and reading, especially poetry. Much of her experience comes from what she has read, rather than what she has done. She is easily intimidated, but refuses to back down when she feels that it is important. She rarely loses her temper and is very carefree when it come to most things. Her loyalty to the Queen, however, is absolute. She believes that the woman who took her and saved her from a short life of hard labor is beyond reproach. Mar believes that, at least until Carraigh is found, the Queen should head the kingdom.

Equipment / Abilities
Mar is quick and good with a knife, though the only one she ever uses is a small kitchen sharpened to razor-sharp. She has very little strength, but finds that she is often underestimated, because of her small size. She is deadly quick and cunning, so she can be a formidable opponent.

History
Mar's story is a common one in the kingdom of Saareda. She was given to the church when she was ten, because her family was far too poor to feed all her brothers and sisters. Mar got lucky, the queen was looking for young girls to be raised at court as lady's maids. Mar was selected, because she was small and wasn't marked by any diseases. She has lived in the castle since that day and she barely remembers her home. The time in the castle had sharpened her manners and her intelligence. She was given the opportunity to learn to read and write and she devoted herself to studying.

Mar serves the Queen and her retinue. She is not of high enough status to be called upon all the time, but she manages to avoid the unpleasant chores fairly easily. Mar is faithfully devoted to the Queen and believes that her goodwill is too great for her to have caused any harm to the king or Carraigh.
