Synopsis
Former ruler of the Empire, now a military general


Description

Currently 154 years old, which is about the retiring age of a Marutuk. He's got many good years left in him yet, being as genetically perfect as a human being can be (or more rather, a clone of the first Dune Emperor).


Personality
Stern and serious, Saladin has always done what was necessary to protect the Empire and pacify the threat of another major rebel uprising, ending it before it began. Were it not for his actions, an outright war would surely have broken out on a scale that hasn't been seen for generations, yet many people remember the time of his rule with resentment. Although the threat has been stemmed, remnants continue to linger and multiply in force. Deciding that it was only a matter of time before the rebels mounted another uprising, Saladin decided to retire as Dune Emperor and became a military general to directly oversee preparations for the inevitable confrontation. It was clear that staying any longer as ruler of the Empire would only have made it easier for the rebels to gain new recruits and sympathizers, and the rise of the rebel leader, Alphonsus Savanti, has certainly not helped matters at all. Saladin is ever concerned for the safety of the Empire and hopeful that his successor, the new emperor, Leto Marutuk, is able to take over the reins and become a better ruler than he was.


Equipment / Abilities
Has power armour, a power sword and a laser pistol. Also has superhuman levels of strength and speed due to being a Marutuk. Also capable of permanent and accelerated learning, which renders training through repetition unnecessary and no grain of knowledge is ever forgotten. Anyone else would require extensive body and brain modifications for these capabilities, but for a Marutuk, it is simply genetic.


History
The time of Saladin’s rule is remembered as the most tumultuous in centuries since the last rebel uprising was put down. With rebel activity gradually increasing with every year, Saladin had to become rather heavy handed in his leadership. As a result, his style was more martial than other Marutuks and many people suffered, either as a result of his policies or the actions of his subordinates, but he had effectively rooted out a large number of rebels hiding themselves within the Empire and discouraged further attacks. After retiring as Dune Emperor, Saladin feared that things would get worse before they got better, so he became a general of the army (and the rebels’ favourite target) to personally oversee military matters, regularly reporting to the new Marutuk and sometimes participating in operations himself.
