History

Diana is an only child.  Not technically, but she might as well have been.  Her elder sister, Ayla, only lived with her family until Diana was 10 and Ayla was 16.  After that Ayla bounced in and out of mental institutions until it was determined that permanent supervision was a necessity.  Diana’s early memories of Ayla were relatively normally until Ayla was about 14.  Ayla became paranoid and made little sense.  Her mental state only deteriorated over the next few years until Ayla’s first hospitalization.  Diana was outside of the house when Ayla was first hospitalized and never found out what led to it.

Her parents would organize family trips to see Ayla, but sometimes Ayla would refuse to meet them.  If fact, they only ever saw Ayla when she was drugged out of her mind and seemed oblivious to her surroundings.

In the house, Diana’s parents paid special attention to her.  They seemed concerned with Diana’s progress, feeling Ayla’s mental illness was their fault somehow.  She got the best of every opportunity, but Diana would find their constant presence a bit smothering at times.

It wasn’t until age 16 that Diana first began to see things.  It started off with sudden noises and shifts in motion; things that one can pass off easily.  However, over the course of a few months everything focused and gained clarity.  It frightened her to see the terrifying creatures that seemed to be ever present.  However, with this, she also gained another type of understanding or sight.  She could “see” the ties between things.  It was as if the world was a web and she knew where all the points were and their connections.

It is a difficult thing to explain to people.  But it dominated her world so much.  Trying to talk about it only made her parents upset.  It got to be intense and eventually, this led to her going to the same place Ayla was staying.  It took her awhile to “convince” everyone that she was improving and even longer to find ways to dodge taking her medication.

Diana is 19 years old now and is getting used to living on her own.
