Synopsis
A two-tailed cat monster with a sensual, savage personality...
Description
Personality
curious, stubborn, and as self-centered as a gyroscope, Lapis is
definitely a cat. One minute he’ll be climbing on you and purring up a
storm, the next minute you’ll think you’ve just run into a food
processor that’s biting your ears off. However, this little monster has
been spending too much time in human shape for it not to be affecting
his mind. This is the cause of much inner conflict and frustration,
which manifests in the form of rapid mood changes and occasionally
unreasonable violence. He comes off as more intelligent than he really
is most of the time and complicated insults usually go right over his
head. Having been a solitary and private creature for most of his life,
Lapis rarely thinks of people as anything more than things to be either
used or feared. Rarely though, he will form a connection with someone
strong enough to make him very vulnerable indeed...
Equipment / Abilities
Shape-shifting (taking on the form of anyone he sees through constant
concentration. Also switching from humanoid to felinoid), feline
agility, stealth, and senses, including excellent night vision. Also a
skill at manipulating people akin to that of a sociopath and Fighting
dirty with all available weapons (including claws and teeth) and
complete lack of compunction or morality. In some stories he is capable of breathing 'ghost-fire' which is like fox-fire, but not from a fox. He also has an abnormally long lifespan- I generally put his RPs somewhere along his personal timeline (This may or may not effect his history) and his given age may vary anywhere between around 90 to around 500. His appearance is invariably that of a young man in his late teens-early 20s.
History
Lapis started life as a normal cat, a feral thing surviving in the
desert wastes. As he grew older and more cunning, he grew in size, his
fur turned white and his tail split in two. Hunting absolutely anything
as a matter of survival, he devoured everything from mice, to poisonous
snakes, to other monsters. After many decades of this, he developed a
few new tricks; namely the ability to change his morphogenic field to
that of a human, and eventually to match it to that of those around him.
Primitive human nomads living between the mountains and the deserts had
long incorporated the strange monsters to the west into their religion.
These things somewhere between man and beast were gods to them-
creatures to be worshiped and feared. For a time, Lapis would meet one
which had sojourned deeper into the desert on a mission of spiritual
gain. He would take semi-human form and grant favors in exchange for
pieces of gold jewelry, which the nomad tribes hammered into beautiful
shapes. These tribes are long extinct now, of course, consumed by the
environment they lived in.
Notes: The details of his history vary depending on genre and setting.
Extra
This is my favorite character, so I use him quite a bit. This makes most of the details of his 'design' somewhat elastic, although his appearance does not change.
