Synopsis
Known only as Fausten, this hacker is always looking for the next deal with the devil.
Description
Fausten is older than what one might expect out of a hacker- probably somewhere in his mid-40's. He has the skin tone of one who has only a vague cognition that the sun exists. It is hard to tell if his head is clean shaven or if it is a natural bald state. Based on the rest of his appearance, one would guess it is a natural baldness since he doesn't seem to have an acquaintance with a laundry machine or basic toiletries or even a mirror.
He had small, but piercing, unnatural white eyes that are sunken deep into his face and rimmed with black circles. This is obviously some genetic mishap. His mouth is small, but pert, almost baby-like. His head is actually very round and this roundness is mirrored in his face. Embedded into this lovely round skull are three separate subdermal ports.
Personality
So long out of society and social interaction, Fausten has forgotten how to deal with people. He talks to himself almost constantly (or really, he talks to his ever changing AI companion Mephistopheles that he programmed with his own personality and knowledge so he could live forever). Those around him think he just babbles, but in reality, he is holding conversations, essentially, with himself.
He is well read and took his name not from the famous play, but rather from the chapbook the play was based on, thus the Fausten rather than Faust or Faustus. Fausten loves the obscure, the defamed and the odd fact.
In his rare public excursions, Fausten claims to be a hacker named Luciferous. It is under this name that he takes paying jobs.
Equipment / Abilities
Fausten is one with computers and electronics. He is a master programmer and hacker. At least in his own mind.
He has the standard nero-optic AI to help him with hacking (Mephistopheles). He also has three subdermal ports that connect to his nervous system- one for wireless incursions, one for hardlined incursions and one for low frequency ports (like radio, TV and CB).
History
Once, long ago, Fausten had a name. What it was is inconsequential now as that person is long gone. He was a child and even children suffer, grow up and die.
The name Fausten first appeared somewhere between 20 and 30 years ago, leaving easter eggs around the net and on various business mainframes. At first it was just strange and cryptic facts and figures left for people to find, but soon it became obvious that whenever he left something behind on a mainframe, he was also taking something. The take was much more subtle than the drop.
There are rumors as to Fausten's previous/real life persona among the hacker community. Some of the rumors are fueled by Fausten himself and others...others may be more based on fact. One of the most popular rumors revolves around what he did before he dropped out of society. They say that he was a programmer for Synthoids with one of the Big Conglomerate companies. Then there is the rumor that says Fausten is actually the president of one of the big companies and is just tricking all the hacker community. Another rumor says that he left that company when his daughter died of slow, industrial, heavy metal poisoning caused by the same company. There are also those who say that Fausten is a group of people all working under one name. And of course there are those who say Fausten is Synthoid trying to take over the world.
None of these are true.
What is true, is that in the real world, Fausten is a ghost. No one has been able to figure out who he really is. This is mainly due to the fact that, on the rare occasions when he does venture out of his lair to dally with other hackers and people, he claims to be the hacker known as Luciferous. As Luciferous, he has a reputable, but ordinary hacker record.
Three facts that are true:
- Fausten is a partially genetically engineered human. His parents wanted him to be made of all the "best" stuff the two of them could offer. It didn't work out.
- Fausten used to be an information archivist before he went off grid.
- Fausten flunked out of school- three times.
