History
Rhasu was born to a earthbending father, who fought in the 100 year war, and nonbender mother.  The village he was born into was full of earthbenders, so naturally there were plenty of people to get his education started.  By 5 he was able to shatter a rock twice his size, and pick up all the pieces.  As hard as he tried, and as hard as his mentors pushed, he was never able to metalbend.

When he was 9, he could frequently be found in the field behind his house, setting up stones for him to run over, between, under, through, and all other possible maneuvers.  When asked what he was doing, he simply answered "Practicing".  He did this regularly, and started setting up more difficult and complex courses when he was 10.  He ended up with bruises, scrapes, cuts, and a couple broken ribs, but he couldn't have been happier than when he was running.

When Rhasu was 16, and finally getting the hang of sandbending, his father left Rhasu's mother and little sister to take Rhasu to the desert.  They built a small home for the two of them, and the young man was forced to practice sandbending for 8 hours a day.  He was enthusiastic at first, but he grew tired quickly.  He had the techniques down, he had the focus down, yet he was still being forced to practice.  After the sunburning, thirst, and hunger started truly gnawing at him, he decided he would leave.  Leave his father, and go somewhere where he could be useful, rather than just being forced to follow in an old soldier's footsteps.

Long story short, he ended up in Republic City.  Not having any skills besides his bending and running, he worked for the newly forming gangs.  Naturally, as a runner.  Getting things from one place to another inconspicuously.  At times when he had no money and was needed, he would work as muscle.  Despite being a part-time gang worker, he did his best to avoid the police.  That was trouble he didn't need or handle.

It was after one of the muscle jobs that Rhasu met Sumna.  He was broken and beaten from attempting to raid a gang base who knew he was coming.  He stumbled through the alleys, finally getting away from his pursuers, only to trip over a sleeping man covered by a blanket.  This man was a healer.  Just what Rhasu needed.  Sumna gave Rhasu just the treatment to fix him up for a fistful of Yuans.
