You got these six or seven dude(ttes) who are part of a secret(ish) espionage and dispatch team, known as CANIS (Centralized Association to Neutralize Intelligence from Strangers) or DOGE (Deadly Operations Group of Espionage). I haven't decided LOL but anyway they're taken from somewhat similar backgrounds, but mostly just people with some military/police training. They get together and meet, some for the first time and others not so much. They are all supervised by the big, bad(?) chairman who gives them missions through the Beastmaster and must travel the world to complete them as a team and dispatch people as necessary.
Did I mention that this takes place in the future?
Ah yes. Well it does.
While on the surface, all of the international conflicts have been resolved the United States, China, and a few other countries have been having something of a cold war. While no missiles have been fired, there is a tension brewing amongst the nations. Not including the technology arms race, the US has been trying to create better operatives for field work which brought about the CANIS/DOGE program. It's obviously a prototype and very expensive to do since it requires that these people be trained for long periods of time and possibly "modified" in some ways. Sure, it seems all fine and dandy on the surface, but you must remember that dogs used to be wolves once too. Who is to say that they won't become wild again?
Rules
[ACTIVITY] I don't expect people to reply right away, but if you are going
to be delayed please let the thread know. I won't begrudge you if
you're gone for too long since everyone has lives outside of roleplaying
and other roleplays to post to. If needed, you can PM me with details
on what to do with your character if you have to be on hiatus for more
than two to three weeks or if you want to abandon them altogether. We
can definitely work something out! However, if there isn't any answer
from you for more than a month then I will put your character on hiatus
and possibly open the slot your character once filled.
Otherwise,
I think the minimum should be a post every two weeks, though I
understand if the person you're conversing with has yet to reply to you.
[POSTING] Since
this roleplay was labeled "intermediate" I assume that everyone will
strive to spell-check and grammar-check their posts. If you don't do
that, you should. In terms of content, I'm not looking for length so
much as I am looking for substance. I want players that can keep the
plot moving without writing a novel.
[FORMATTING] Feel free
to decorate your character's profile however you want, but please
include the following (in addition to the usual stuff): -Preferred Weapon -Theme Song
[CHARACTER CREATION] Being
that this is roleplay is slightly sci-fi/futuristic I'm not asking for
super-realistic everything, but your character should be believable to
some extent. I don't want to see (for example) the Wolfhound stereotyped
as this bad boy, badass lone wolf that grew up on the streets and knows
five hundred different martial arts and is looking for any excuse to
rebel. There should be a degree of dimension to their personalities,
histories, and everything! I mean, I'm not saying that they can't have
some stereotypical traits, but that they should be more than that.
Additionally, these character slots are neither on a reserve nor a first-come, first-serve basis. I reserve the right to reject you or leave your profile pending if I feel like waiting for another entry. I'm pretty flexible on how I envision these characters and open to critiquing so you can, if you want, PM me for character ideas and tweaks if needed.
Background
In the year 2053 the United States, China, and the European Union have become international superpowers as well as allies. On the surface it seems that with these superpowers so closely bonded their sharing of ideas would only benefit all sides, but this is not so. Under the guise of peace a tension has been brewing between every nation. Though no one will admit to it, a secret arms race has emerged with no side knowing who is ahead and who is being left behind. Advancements in electrical engineering, biotechnology, and energy production are being funded by the military even in the face of a precarious economy (which only barely recovered after the recession fifty years ago) with no public display of progress. Instead, the only known innovations have been the commercialization of holograms, sustainable solar power, and bioremediation.
No longer are we bound by natural gas or coal. We now have an endless supply of energy and genetically powered microbes to clean up the damage of our past generation. Great no? Perhaps we still need some tweaking, but I can at least say that your car is no longer shredding the ozone layer.
Characters
A figure plugs a USB cable into a seemingly old computer, something that appeared to be out of the 1980s and types deliberately, wasting not one stroke on an error. Though she unlikely to be caught she knew that she didn't have long before the security system would be back up and she would have to go back to being another agent amongst the other thousands. She wanted to figure out what was going on with the elusive CANIS program...as well as why she wasn't accepted.
B E A S T M A S T E R (35-50): Supervisor of the CANIS program and the manager of
the team. He receives the orders from the Chairman and is responsible
for training the DOGES division. [TAKEN BY Cows Go Moo]
"Keep 'em on a tight leash eh?" The hacker smirked. The Beastmaster was known as a veteran amongst the CIA, having trained when phones couldn't even charge without a wire.
L A P D O G (optional,15+): Son/daughter of the Beastmaster [OPEN]
Oh, the hacker remembered this kid. A royal pain in the ass if nothing else. If nothing else, this was proof that even in the year 2053, nepotism was a thing.
W O L F H O U N D (24-26): Adopted son of the Beastmaster who was originally rescued after being "caught" in the middle of FBI-related raids in India. Since his rescuing, the Beastmaster mentored him as the agent and entered him as the prototype of the CANIS program. [TAKEN BY Cows Go Moo]
That psychopath was here? The hacker changed her mind. This was proof of nepotism.
S H E P H E R D (26-35): Captain of their old squad in the Middle East before they were regrettably shot. Having served several tours of duty, this person was personally asked by the Beastmaster to partake in the program. [OPEN]
Boring, boring, boring. Typical story of a good captain getting his dues. The hacker shrugged before moving onto the next file.
R E T R I E V E R (22-26): Originally served as part of the bomb squad before being shifted over to search and rescue. Information ends here. [OPEN]
Must be a database error...or something.
H U S K Y (24-28): --- [TAKEN BY Havetvand]
Ehh let's not read that one. This person was another typical case of a poor boy forced into the military for the GI Bill money.
D O B E R M A N (28-35): Originally applied to the military, but became a police officer in the later years. Chosen due to her high athletic capabilities [TAKEN BY Callmebeloved]
Doberman is a bit of a harsh name for someone that good looking...
S P A N I E L (18-22): Prodigy, rookie, easily replaceable if they don't maximize their potential. [OPEN]
That's weird. Where was the file? She was sure that it would be here somewhere. Was she just not looking hard enough? Maybe if she-
Pain reverberated through her body as she felt metal stab into her backside.
"Did you think we would allow you to leave so easily?"
"Beastmaster?" she asks through labored breaths, "no, you're just that psycho."
"I have a name you know," the Wolfhound replied, snatching the device out of the hacker's hand.
"My English isn't very good so forgive me, but you have barely scratched the surface of what we, what this is," he said coldly.
"Can you at least tell me why?" she rasped as she fell to the floor, "why wasn't I accepted?"
The Wolfhound pulled out the knife and paused for a second, staring at her with dead eyes.
