Background
During
this age peace and harmony prevailed, humans did not have to work to feed
themselves, for the earth provided food in abundance. They lived to a very old
age with a youthful appearance, eventually dying peacefully, with spirits
living on as "guardians". ~ le Wikipedia
The world is full of
magic and the mastery of it is one of the reasons why humanity has persevered.
After centuries of cultivation, the very soil has become infused with magic and
no one in living memory has ever had to worry about starvation. For the longest
time, the greatest adversity was surviving the presence of mighty predatory
beasts such as manticores, chimeras, cockatrices, griffins, giants, harpies
and, deadliest of them all, dragons, for which an entire order of elite warriors
known as 'Dragoons' was founded. But eventually, with each one of these
terrors slain by the heroes of their day, it became evident that humankind
would be destined to flourish and inherit the earth. There is yet only one more
monster to slay before true prosperity can be known; the last dragon.
Regarding magic, think wind, fire, water and earth. Elemental stuff.
Characters
You can have 4 types of
characters here (at the moment):
1. Dragoon - Naturally,
it'll be the last Dragoons who'll be hunting the last dragon. When that's done
with, the world will no longer need dragon slayers; a fact that your character
can take however he or she will. If you're not familiar with Final Fantasy,
dragoons are knightly warriors who are able to jump incredibly high and are
proficient with spears and swords (sometimes oversized). They use this ability
to leap high above an enemy's head to deliver a single devastating blow upon
descent, or give chase to dragons that might take to the sky. Some Dragoons may
be mages, though their fighting skill and ability to jump comes from nothing
but sheer training.
2. Mage - Even with the
ability to command the elements, it's awful brave to take on a dragon that
might be impervious to magic for all anyone knows. It's not unheard of, but at
least it hasn't always been the case. Mages have power over wind, fire, water
and earth, but most typically focus on one element as attempting two or more is
like trying to become ambidextrous when you're left or right handed. That isn't
to say that it's impossible, but it IS incredibly difficult. Mages are often
part of the court of their respective societies, serving as advisers and lore
masters, though some may prefer to live as wanderers.
3. Guardian - Spirits of
the deceased are known as 'Guardians', who wander the earth as incorporeal
entities and protect people by warning them of danger. They are unable to
interact with anyone or anything physically, but they can still see, hear and
speak well enough. Some Guardians are new, some have been around for centuries,
all are allowed to wander around for as long as they wish before entering their
next life.
4. Wanderer - Anyone
who's not a Dragoon, court mage or Guardian, but has braved the vastness of the
world nonetheless. With only one dragon remaining in existence, many have
boldly left the safety of their homes and walls to walk the earth, to see
whatever they might see before the day they die. Wanderers are simply people
with the desire to travel. Without the sheer strength of Dragoons or the
authority of court mages, a wanderer would have to be extraordinarily brave,
skilled or motivated enough to join the hunt for the last dragon. Common sense
would dictate that the bow and arrow would be a humble traveler's weapon of
choice against such a foe, though of course, wanderers by definition are free
of any restrictions and may equip themselves however they see fit (and are able
to afford).
Just shoot me a PM about which one(s) you'd like and we'll get things sorted out from there.
