Into the Chamber of Time he crept, unnoticed and purposeful. It was a
simple mission he was on: destroy Time. For it is only when Time ceased
that his master Erebus could arise once more. He stole Time, that demon,
and with all his might shattered it. Time crumbled in his hands, and
taking up the many Fragments, scattered them far. And as the Fragments
flew, so too did the order of Time. Everywhere, clocks ground to a halt
and the sky warped and swirled. And gradually, everything stopped.
Nothing moved. For Time had been destroyed, and without anyone to govern
it, the flow of time dried.
But before Abaddon could cast away the last Fragment, intervention
arrived in the form of Janus, a deity close in power to Time itself. In a
panic Abaddon fled, leaving behind the very last Fragment on the
Chamber floor. Though he mourned the loss of Time, Janus knew that it
was now, when Time had ceased, that time was of the utmost importance.
With a boost of his own power, he restored that Time Fragment to the
world: the Midnight Fragment. Life began to flow once more, but not in
its usual manner. For as there was only midnight, all life was now bound
to that time. Janus assured himself that it was better than having time
frozen.
However, he did not have the other Fragments. With the responsibility of
protecting this Fragment lest Abaddon return to scatter it, Janus knew
that he could not seek out the Fragments, and knew that if he were to
rely on humans, he would have to empower them, and band them together.
For a singular human could not hope to accomplish the feat alone. And
so, reaching out to the earth, he sought out eight humans with strong
potential. To each he touched their minds, presenting them with memories
of what had transpired in the Chamber of Time, of the task that faced
them. And with these memories, he drew from their wells of potential the
ability to wield an element, an element close to their soul, that they
might protect themselves from the dark forces that were certain to
hinder their every step.
Gathering the eight together, Janus sends them to the doorstep of
Trismegistus, one of his devoted friends and an alchemical inventor. To
Trismegistus, Janus too grants memories of the events that transpired
and the task the eight gifted humans face. His role is simple: aid them
in any way he can. Understanding the graveness of the situation, the
inventor prepares his home to receive eight strangers who hold the fate
of the world in their hands.

Characters
The Classic Elements
Fire Burning brightly yet
destructively, Fire is a fickle element, that when tamed can bring
warmth and light, while let loose can raze cities to the ground. Fire is
immune to the flames in which they command, can set a spark and light a
fire with the snap of their fingers, and manipulate any form of fire
there is, from the flickering of a candle to the vicious heat of magma.

Air
Water Fluid but powerful,
Water nourishes, refreshes, and vitalizes, while at the same time is an
unstoppable, flexible force when stirred. Water can sway any form of
liquid to their will - one might want to be careful with their glass of
milk or their can of soda should the user feel mischievous. From the
gentle showers of rain to the roaring surf of the ocean, all are under
their command.
Strengths

Air
Aether; as the branch of fire, also "drowning" in fear

Weaknesses
Water; cancels

Ice
Thunder
Earth Sturdy, enduring
Earth is known not only for solidity and durability, but also the
promise of life and nurturing. The very ground upon which they stand is
pliable to Earth's will, and with a thought they can cause any plant to
spring up from the ground or wither.

Weaknesses
Fire
Aether; the spirit coexists with but is transient from the body, which is “earthly” ( ashes to ashes, dust to dust )
Ice
Metal
Air Intangible yet most
definitely present, Air is an unpredictable moving constant that refuses
to be caught, teasingly and suddenly changing directions or strengths,
sometimes hot and sometimes cold. Air holds the winds under their
command, able to still the gales to a gentle breeze or conjure them into
a howling tempest.

The Branch Elements
Aether Branching from Fire,
Aether is known by many names, including "Spirit", "Willpower", "Life
Force", and "Fire of Life". Aether has the ability to draw from their
internal energies and, with permission and to a lesser extent, the
energies of others around them. With minor telekinesis, they can move
small objects with a thought, and wield their own Aether like Fire would
wield flames.

Ice Water's Branch
Element is Ice. Cold, harsh, and beautiful, Ice can be delicate as the
whisper of snow, or sharp as the biting tip of an icicle, immovable as
the bulk of a glacier. Able to affect the air around them, Ice can drop
temperatures to subzero climates, and summon soft snow, deadly spires
of ice, or stir an avalanche to life.

Aether; "frozen" in fear
Weaknesses
Fire
Metal Metal branches from
Earth, and inherits the strength and sturdiness of its related element.
Whether it be malleable gold and copper, heavy iron, or alloys like
steel and brass, Metal can shape them all, solid or molten forms alike.
Able to draw them from the ground or manipulate metal objects around
them, Metal can instantly sharpen a blade or render it useless with a
simple thought.

Thunder
Thunder This dazzling element
is the Branch Element of Air. Unpredictable like its related element,
Thunder can strike suddenly and swiftly, acting beneficially like
electricity in electronics, or destructively to viciously tear down the
tall and mighty. From the currents in wires to the powerful bolts of the
heavens, Thunder can control them all.

Aether; can give/take life ( AED/electrocution, respectively )
