Within the seven, Xue-Lian was always most famous for her beauty.

She was poised and elegant, a flower amongst a gathering of weeds. But her beauty was only skin-deep. Her true nature was nothing like the poetry her suitors wrote of her—kind, gentle, and loving. She was never kind, never gentle, and never loving.

Xue-Lian was critical and impersonal. She was callous with other people's feelings and had no patience for foolishness. To her, time spent joking was time better spent preparing for war.

At the age of six, Xue-Lian came to discover her unusual talents. She hid her ability for six years before her father, a spineless official, left her for dead. He didn't want her near the family (he feared that she would slaughter everyone in their sleep), but couldn't openly disown her either (he could not withstand the "shame" of having an unnatural daughter). So, one night, he drugged her soup and, when it was safe, left her in the woods.

She was supposed to have died that night.

Xue-Lian was twenty-four when she met with Machiavelli De Luca. Some sources say that the two shared a brief, but intimate relationship—that she loved him, but he loved someone else. For four years, the two fought side-by-side and for four years, their camp was impenetrable. He was a charismatic leader—a symbol of hope to the surviving synergists—and she was a natural tactician—a brilliant chess master.

When Sidereus was built, Xue-Lian had refused her Cardinal position. She said she was tired of the war and she was tired of leading. She wanted to live a quiet life, away from all the reminders of the past thirty years. But De Luca is famously recorded as having said: Xue-Lian, you have to sacrifice more than anyone else so that your sons and daughters won't have to. You have to be stronger so that the future won't know this hardship.

In the end, Xue-Lian became a Cardinal for Sidereus and, when she passed away, her body was buried in the Halls of Heroes.
