    Siblings on the run (Venin666xNinjaBunnyAttack)

Long ago, at the beginning of the third world war a group of brilliant scientists got together to make an EMP that could knock out nuclear devices to avoid the world being destroyed by such in the war. They succeeded. However, the price of their success was the use of electronics worldwide. Nobody knew exactly what happened. They just all knew that on one day, around midnight, for those who were awake, a bright flash was seen in the sky and the electronics stopped working.

Many thought this was a one-time fluke, and in fact waited a few days and try their electronics again. However, they, like everyone else soon came to realize that electronics weren't coming back.

This effectively brought everyone around the world back to the industrial age, but this time things were different. Using steam for energy and future technologies for the blueprints the industrial age came back with a bang.

Of course, in all the shuffle. Many people lost their livelihood, jobs and families. The homeless and bereft adults supported each other while the homeless children played in the streets pickpocketing or using whatever else they could to survive.

This is the story of two such children, a sister and her younger brother.

"Thanks Mister!" Johnathan smiled wide to the market shopkeeper from under his paperboy's cap. His hands clutching tightly to the two apples the market shopkeeper had given him. both apples had some minor bruise on them, but otherwise they would be fine. The shopkeeper guaranteed that the apples would be the last thing to sell if at all. for this reason , the shopkeeper had given Jonathan the apples.

Waving goodbye and thanks for the man Jonathan darted down an alleyway just off the marketplace. Once he was out of sight of the marketplace, Jonathan pocketed the apples then goes to find where he and his sister stayed for the night.

It bothered him that since someone had been chasing them for a while, always having to be on the run left them with very little money.this meant that they had to rely on the kindness of others or luck. What bothered him the most however was that they had no reason why they were being chased we're just kids what could anyone want with us?

Being on the road had taught Jonathan how to pickpocket. He was very good at it for being 14. he wasn't quite sure his sister approved of the skill, but it helped them out a few times. Considering that he continued to do it.

Finding the little "hideout" of theirs. He slipped in whispering kind of loudly "Hey, Sis, you awake?"

Alexandra's hand waved lightly in the small beam of sunlight that had split through the roof shafts and the newly opened windows. She knew they hadn't have pulled the boarding off from the windows because They would be able to find them easier but if they would last another month then why not let the last amount of light they had before the harsh and unforgiving winter came. She looked away from her still waving hand and looked around her and her younger brother's makeshift 'house', if you could even call it that, and her eyes slowly teared up. The one thing she missed most before this whole drama started was not the money and wealth her parents had, it wasn't even the house and area they lived in, so full of laughter and hope that the New Age didn't seem to exsist. It was the fact that she had a family to turn to when things got hard. She had Jonathan no doubt, but sometimes someone needed a Mother's hug and love or a Father's stern word when she did the wrong thing, which was most of the time.

She pushed the tears back and closed her eyes, willing the images to escape her mind. The hand that had been moving had made it's way to the back of her neck where the small indentation of an electrical cord insertion had been implanted. Their Uncle was not the nicest of men you could say. Being the owner of the largest industrial that produced the most fuel did come with it's hardships. She fingered the hole slightly and winced as her finger went in to far and touched bare flesh. Luckily their Uncle's experiments on children had never reached Jonathan and he wasnt even aware of her past. There had been about 6 years where they had not spoken or even seen each other. Not only because he had been younger then he was now but also because she had been placed in the bright white laboratory of her Uncle's facilities.
Jonathan's voice broke the silence and she sat up a little and smiled, "Do you have food? I'm starving John!" Sitting up untill she was sitting crossed legged, pulling her long black hair across her back to hide the insertion. He didn't know she had it and she was going to keep it that way!

[OMG I hope this is okay :S ]

Johnathan smiled "Of course I did! check it out" John reached into his pockets and pulled out what he usually got away with. Some bread, cheese, and a few strips of meat. He paused for a moment waiting for a response because he was sure she was as tired of the meal as he was but it was all he could get normally. After what he considered a good pause he reached into his pockets and pulled out the apples "And look what a nice shopkeeper gave me!"

He portioned some food for himself and let her get hers. Before he cuddled up against his sister taking a first bite, chewing, and swallowing before asking. "What do we want to do today...?....we going to move again?..." they'd been in their little place for two whole days now they were bound to move soon. A week was the most they'd stayed anywhere and Johnathan still though they were lucky to have lasted that long.

When he thought about moving another question popped into his head. "Sis? why do you think those guy's are chasing us....what makes us so special..." he'd asked the first part of the question several times before if they weren't being chased they would be able to actually go home. The second part of the question was relatively new. He wondered about the answer but he mainly asked it to not sound like a broken record since he asked the first part at least 4 times a week, more out of anger than frustration.

Alexandra smiled as Jonathan produced his steals from that day. She knew Jonathan didn't have the complete means to aqquire all the food he showed her on a daily basis but as long as he never got in trouble she didn't raise the comment and situation. Taking a peice of cheese she smiled even wider at the two fruits he pulled out of his pocket. Her mouth instantly began to watr and she could tell her eyes were shining. Her favourite fruit, apples, sat stunningly red in the middle of his hands, a litle bruised but still edible.
She took an apple and bit down as he snuggled into her side. She lay an arm across his shoulders and pulled him tighter as she winced at a bruise she had bitten into, "Hopefully we won't have to move today. Or anytime soon if we are careful. We have managed to keep our distance, our last real escape was about 2 months ago." She shivered slightly at the memory of the urban soldiers and their guns pointed straight at Jonanthan before she was able to divert them towards her. "If we are lucky we will have at least another month if we keep to ourselves and stay quite."
Alexandra gave jonathan a long look at his next questions. She was usually good at diverting the first one with a simple, 'Father's buisness' speech but the second caught her off guard. " .... Special...?" She was a little hesitant, She wasn't sure how much she could let out. She didn't want to scare him. She knew she was terrified when her Uncle explained the process of using childrens' energy to function electricity. Almost like an energy farm. "It doesn't concern you john." She smild and thankfully was stopped short by a soft whimpering at the entrance to the warehouse. Her eyes scanned the doorway and she stood quicker then she usually would, fully alert for the worst. But instead of a pointed gun, a small golden labrodor limped it's way into the room. She looked to Jonathan and frowned slightly, "He followed you. I've told you to be careful!"

Johnathan jumped at the same time his sister did at the noise. When they realized it was a dog Johnathan softened for a moment before his sister turned on him. "I was! nothing was in the alley when I went down it, promise!" He paused a moment before adding "And he's injured...he can't be too dangerous.....he's just hungry...probably followed the smell of the fresh bread." Jonathan's soft side for animals came out as he said the last bit. He had always wanted a pet.He stayed behind his sister even though he wanted to go give the dog a piece of bread and cheese. Whispering softly into his sister's ear "Can we keep him....?"

the dog continued to move toward them although a bit slower since they'd noticed it. As if it was as scared of them as they were of it. It's front right paw seemed to be the offending and injured limb as the dog gingerly used it when walking but held it up as it stopped walking.

Every part of Johnathan screamed at him to go comfort the dog to feed it some of his food and take care of it. But he'd told himself that Alexandra made the final call on decisions.

Alexandra sighed and shook her head and pushed Jonathan closer towards the injured animal, tearing a strip of cloth from the bottom of the white dress she wore. "Go on. I know your dieing to." She shoved the cloth in his hands and threw her share of bread onto the floor in front of the dog, "Tend to the wound. I know you will do a better job then I." She sat back down and crossed her legs underneath her, "I don;t see why we can't but that means we will have to be extra careful and stay for longer then intended until his paw heals properly."

Johnathan stumbled forward when his sister pushed him towards the dog. She was consistently the only person who could make him look like a clumsy kid. but he wasn't going to complain, she'd given him permission to not only take care of the dog but to keep him. He almost protested her ripping a piece of her dress off, but instead he gave his big sister a hug "Thanks sis...I'll be careful"

Letting go of her he moved over to the dog. The dog was cautiously sniffing the bread his sister had thrown over. Johnathan spoke quietly to the dog "It's ok...go on, take it..." as if the dog understood him it snatched up the bread munching hungrily. John reached forward and pet the dog a bit calling back to his sister "Sis..you can have my apple." he didn't need to explain it was for her giving her bread to the dog.

After the dog had eaten most of the bread John moved down to the dog's leg, to find out the issue. Finding the issue, a piece of a broken bottle, he gently pulled the shard out. Probably happened sometime last night near a bar. poor puppy was asking for food and a drunk threw a bottle at it. the dog yipe-d softly as John tended to it wrapping the strip of cloth around the wound tightly earning another yelp, but after he was done the dog licked him several times gaining some laughter and squirming from Johnathan. clearly most of the dog's issues and movement problems was from the shard of glass.

Alexandra smiled as Johnathon cried out about the apple and proceeded to tend to the dog. "Just hurry up John." She didn't like him being that close to the open door and she fidgeted slightly with the now broken hem of her dress, that's how they were found last time. She wasalways on edge whenever Johnathon was involved, herself she wasn't concerned about mainly because she could look after herself.
She smiled again as she watched him tended to the dog's paw, she was glad he had kept her out of their Uncle's reach. He was to kind hearted to live through the treatments and experiments of the facilities. She, yet again felt the back of her neck and examined Johnathon's own clean and slightly pale neck, wishing that a tube nor a cord would ever be pushed through te fair skin.

When he was able to get the dog off of him Johnathan moved back over to his sister snuggling up against her again. The dog did the same thing, but getting on Alexandra's other side sandwiching her between the dog and her brother. Jonathan spoke up after he finished the rest of his food. "Sis...what do you think we should call him?" John looked to his sister for everything and while he had some names for the dog he wanted Alexandra to have a say in the naming of the dog.

"I was thinking "kit" what do you think of Kit?" Johnathan asked both his sister and the yet-to-be-named dog though he was doing more facing of his sister than the dog, with his head in her lap as he looked up to the ceiling of their warehouse. Johnathan then turned his gaze to his sister for her answer. He left the final decisions to her because, well she was his big sister, she knew more than him.. She knew more about how to survive than he did, sure he could pick pockets without his victim noticing, but she'd said no to anything other than food. So that's the only thing he took.
