Question Tell me about your favorite character you've ever played.

Chances are, a gamer who has played ten different games has played at least ten different characters.

Most of them will be our "favorite" for one reason or another. ("He's my favorite as he's the first guy I ever played." or "She's my favorite magic user I've ever played." or "I've played a lot of weird characters, but my favorite was the fighter with the pet duck...") And we've all got stories about what makes these characters so great.

So here's your chance to tell us (or at least, tell me) about your "favorite" characters. Feel free to come back and share more stories about different characters, or reaffirm your love for a character you've told us about before with a new story about why they're the best character ever.

okay I have been role playing for something akin to nineteen years now, so my character count is seriously in the hundreds. I, honestly, still have the first role playing character I ever made. Choosing a favorite is just something beyond me. How ever, I will happily share some of my most memorable characters, and you may even see some of them around here at some point ;p. These are listed in no particular order and I'm not going to mention my ginger bread man because you have seen him else where.

Conall Mc'Finn is a were wolf with a demon locked in side him that has been in several different settings. He IS charisma, people love him despite being used and tossed aside by his arrogant nature. He's fun to play because people really do like him, unfortunately he has caused issues in the past with players getting jealous for his time.

Shade is a fun one. He was first made to join a generic mutant school and was later used in the 'mutants and masterminds' table top system. His powers make him stick out like a sore thumb which has caused a certain shyness in his nature, but he desires, deep down to be a good person. Often times, he becomes something of a boogy man instead, with his ability to travel through shadows and his companion the six foot tall spider made of shadows named Itsy. Although technically human, if you meet shade, you will see he has trouble relating with humans.

T'saria was only ever played in D&D but I loved her so. She was a tiny halfling cleric who rode a wolf and wore armor so heavy she could not walk on her own. She worshiped a unicorn themed goddess and aimed to become an avatar her self, always seeking the goodness in others and even befriending traditionally 'evil' characters and attempting to show them the light, lol.

Gem was played in a star wars table top game. Originally he was supposed to be heading off to learn the ways of the jedi but because of a player who had a grudge against me and a few players who did some really stupid things, he instead saw the adult role models in his life repeatedly betray him or die horribly and ended up turning to the dark side to "protect the weak and foolish and punish the undeserving." Through a lot of flukes and some character quirkiness he became powerful and rich and truly did believe he was doing the world a favor.

Sasha was dropped on her head as a child...repeatedly. Some people say that is what gave her the power to light things on fire with her mind, others think that is just why she enjoys lighting living creatures on fire so much. She was a slightly *cough*extremely*cough* insane psionic who had a fire fetish. She was chaos to an extreme, her personality loosely based on Hex from the cartoon series Reboot.

Lol I have others, like a halfling who sought ot 'right the wrongs of the world', an ecstasy addicted girl who came back in a ball of flames every time she died of, a regal unicorn who led his kind to a secluded glade and kept them safe over several adventures, a blind traveler from mysterious places, a fun loving time lord who was on a quest to find /something/, but I think I've mentioned enough for now ;p. Shade and Conall are my most common realm jumpers so you may see incarnations of them here at some point. Tsaria is too busy being a demi goddess to bother going else where and Gem and Sasha are a bit on the destructive side so are best kept locked away.

My favorite character... would HAVE to be Zorvan, Chaos mage of the High Order, slightly broken, possessor of both the Sword Of Disruption, also known as the Sword of Chaos, and the Cloak of Many Things, Many Things, owner of the Hat of DOOOOOOM!
He's a very, very, very powerful chaos mage. With zip, nada, zero control most of the time! The only thing that you CAN expect is chocolate, and lots of it. He's good at making chocolate. His sword is the only way he's able to direct his chaotic power, and even then it does what it wants most of the time. His cloak is basically an infinite bag of holding, filled with random stuff, and also slightly sentient. Don't try eating it, you'll break the universe and the cracks will be filled in with chocolate. He also has a top hat. He calls it the Hat of DOOOOOOM! but it's really just a hat. An awesome hat, but a hat. I have a picture somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it. XD

Hat of DOOOOM? That is way too awesome! lol I love things of DOOM! I have a Mallot of Doom! Good for bashing glitching internets and messengers XD

    Oh and like Aerion I have hundreds of characters so it's night impossible for me to pick A fave. Although ones that are way up there would include;

Tigerkytti Eltiri, my very first character who is a Nature Elf (a race of my own design), Aura Susurri, she's a wonderful gal who's painfully shy but sweet and is 3/4 elf and 1/4 air/storm elemental.

There's more but just too many XD Ask any questions you might have!

My fave? Like Kytti and Aerion, I have a lot to choose form.

There's Nera, and if you look into my siggy, you'll see a quote by her. I like her partially because of all I've put the poor girl through. The RP I made her for is actually still going, and that week isn't even up, so yeah. She's a very fun character, designed to be a thief. Unfortunately, she ended up being a soldier. XD

There's Saronda, my first character, who is a vampiric neko and hates everyone. I'm not joking. She seriously hates everyone.I like her because her responses to stuff are just so amusing to play out- especially when it's related to her spellbook. A lot happens to her poor spell book.

Then there's Saranda, Saronda's little sister and her original design. She's a sword fanatic. In the middle of a fight, if you were to damge her sword, she drop everything and spend five hours checking it over, that's how crazy she is. She's a lot more friendly then her sister, and a lot crazier.

There are a lot more, but these are definitely my top three. Asking me to choose between them is just impossible. Nera might- or might not- end up here at some point, but you're far more likely to meet some version of Saro or Randa.

Wow, you guys have some seriously fascinating characters. I love really deep character design, so I don't make a ton of characters, but change and adapt those I love for different situations. I do have a favorite male and female, though.

My favorite female I've ever written was brilliant young girl name Kyle who had a love of comic books and knives. She was essentially a giant nerd with very few social skills, practically autistic really, but she was so smart that she would make observations about the physics of one character's blow to the head or talk about the historical significance of giving flowers while a character was flirting with her. She was so obtuse and awesome. I try to re-vamp and use her pretty often.

When I first started role-playing, I wrote a male character name Matthew, who served as a smart aleck bodyguard to a vapid prince. Matthew has constantly evolved, but the core of it is that he is a deeply sarcastic character who really wants someone to see past his witty quips. He's the only romance character I ever played and really grew fond of. Usually those I use for romance are kind of fleeting, Matthew really made an impact.

I made a character before for a roleplay in which he had the ability to turn into any metal object. This had proven a very interesting concept as he could be the most peaceful loving thing then suddenly change in one split second to something that could destroy the entire Earth. All my characters always have a fun and kindness to them(unless they're plain evil) and tend to have split second reactions to things because they're just so different and always being troublemakers. Though, I wish I could remember all about him as all I remember is that he had broken into a military base prior to the roleplay and caused massive chaos making him a wanted man by nature and the government at hand.

That's about all I can think of. I can't remember any of my past characters on than this one.

All time number one favorite character is my first character and the one I'm using in Haven, Rynn. She's had a thousand different versions of the same race- generally she's meant to be a tiger shapeshifter with feline agility, speed, and fighting in her human form. I love her because of her personality. She has a smart remark to everything and, in most roleplays, a swag to rival a god. In Haven, however, the smirking, joking, flirty swag is toned down due to the high stress situation. I love her because she doesn't break no matter what, She's been a slave to psychotic obssessive rapist/murderer/sado masochist before and STILL came out victorious and generally unhindered. Also, in the less serious roleplays she's just a blast with her constant grinning and flirting. Also she is the most fun bounty hunter to play ever. Especially in a western. IN those ones, she's not a shapeshifter lol

Then there's Tehra LeVerryn. A fallen angel guardian who loves killing too much. Basically shes a girl killed on accident in a modern fantasy rp who is brought back as a fallen angel under the condition that she be good (She was accidentally killed by a good fallen who revived her with a rare answered prayer) and kill all the vampires, werewolves, demons, and fallens in the city that wanted to hurt people. What I love about her is she's stupidly brave. When she was faced with the first vampire ever, Cain, she literally just continually told him off which piqued his curiosity in her which led to a fantastic I want to kill you/kiss me now love realtionship with lots of brash acts and talking. Unfortunately I have to be careful with her because in the wrong setting, she somehow morphs into a really emo character who hates her fate.

Tevy Lemine is another favorite. She's a character from a dimension hopping roleplay where all the dimensions ever created (video games, movies, books everything) were real if you had the ability to jump between them. She was an agent of a group of jumpers whose job it was to keep each world's storyline on track (really quite original, my partner Kaco was brilliant for thinking of it). Tevy was from Wonderland and as a result had an ability I called "Pyschemanipulation" where she could convince people that anything she put into their heads was actually happening. Most of the time she used this to amuse her allies. Basically she was an acid trip in the flesh if she wanted to be. She is my most optimistic character ever, and quite adorable and fun to play.

I know I have other people I love to play, but most of them aren't quirky enough to amuse others lol.

I'm split between a NWN2 character of mine, Rith, and a forum RP character of mine, Cas.

Rith was a spirit shaman who started out crazy, had things happen that made her extra crazy, and disappeared into the woods for a while. Eventually I started RPing her again and people started trying to figure out what was so wrong with her head. Some of the best nights of RP I've had.

Cas, on the other hand, was a character specific to a custom setting of mine. Her race was one of a modified lineage of humans, designed to be subservient assassins and mistresses to their creators. Her race and culture had a very different moral system from humans, and she ended up being a pariah to both moral systems. An achievement, I'm sure.

I haven't roleplayed for long, a little more than 1 year, but my favorite characters are:

Pre-made (which is most of my RP experience):

Jack Twist from Brokeback Mountain. He's a sensitive and romantic guy. I was running a original storyline of my own for a few months before it died out. Not using him much anymore although I want to.
Greg Sanders from CSI. He's funny and goofy. He's a DNA specialist that became a CSI. He's also a prodigy child. I would love to play him more but I don't got anyone to play with.

    OC's:
Sergeant Chris Walker. A marine that got abducted by aliens and given kinetic powers. He's set in a Sci-Fi environment. I should pick him up again...
Jeremiah Brown, a young man who received supernatural power after bathing in a toxic lake and then struck by lightning. He got an moving back story. His mother wanted to cure/use his powers and his father protected him. I have played him a bit on here. He can throw lightning bolts and manipulate electronic devices.

    Haha, favorite character... Tough.

I think my favorite character was a young man, who was spoiled from excessive wealth. He was the typical rich brat, who threw money at problems and expected others to forever yield to his will. He was kind of a thorn in the other characters' side, which was a lot of fun to write for, haha. But the thing I liked best about him wasn't his sarcasm or narrow-minded views (he was highly unlikable on this front), but his cowardly nature. He was part of a group of "gifted" individuals (he had the power of illusions, which I thought was rather fitting), but spent more time running away/hiding than helping. He was the idiot who talked big, but didn't have the bite to follow the bark.

Not to mention, I liked how he shaped up through the role-play. He started off as a vain, condescending jackass and ended in much the same way (except with burns to his face). Some might dislike the lack of change in his character, but I find his inability to change to a more likable person just as meaningful. It's too cliche and boring if everything finds the light after trauma, haha.

But I think my "favorite character" and my "preferred character type" is very different. Ideally, I'm most comfortable playing twisted, clever characters, but they are rarely my favorite characters. Decently entertaining, but not extremely rewarding or anything.

Too many to pick... so I drew cards. Not.
So I have this nasty habit of making more characters than I really need. I started off with close to 50 and now I'm probably in the 100s. It's just something I love doing. I just love making new characters with new stories and backgrounds. If I really had to pick, I would have to pick Rroy, Lzerrah, and Arvin. Melik, Aleu, Kaiba, and Nieko are all close seconds.

Rroy, Lzerrah, Arvin, Melik, Aleu, Kaiba, and Nieko are all characters that were created during my high school days. It's really quite neat how they all came about. Aleu was one of the first, as she's based off myself. The others all came later. Rroy, believe it or not, started off as just a side character who was of no importance. But as the story progressed, he sort of just... grew on me. He went from being a no body to one of the most powerful people in the story. He destroyed planets, became a god, and ended up marrying Aleu. Yeah, it's lame. I had my characters marry one another, but Rroy has become the man of my dreams. His past is dark and twisted, but I really like everything he stands for. He's definitely the character I cling to. The others all ended up coming about after Rroy's rise. Kaiba ended up being a suicidal soon-to-be king. Nieko took up the role of Rroy's right-handed man. Lzerrah serves under Rroy as a knight. Melik and Arvin are two of Rroy's best friends. As you can see, the characters really just started to develop and have their own side stories that intertwined with the actual story. If I ever get the chance, I would like to re-write the story and make it less... childish.

Anyway, as much as I love my first set of OC, I really enjoy making up new characters. I love to explore my creativity and push my ideas to the limit. I love watching my characters grew and become something more than just a random idea that popped into my head.

I guess, in a way, every character I create holds a special place in my heart. Some get used more than others, but they are all loved and adored for who they are and what they stand for. I can't help but feel emotionally attached to all my characters. Perhaps I'm just weird, but they are a part of me and I love them all.

Back in the day, when the internet was not a thing, I used to get together with my friends, a bag of dice and my Palladium books.

It was here I made the character Za. She was a changeling beastmaster- and 12 levels of evil. Her beasts included a Za (basically a demon dog), a queen wasp (that she pierced through her nose) and an asp (that she wore in her hair). She killed with glee and abandon (though not the reckless kind). She was also, quite literally, petrified of the dark... because she knew what was in the dark. More people like her. (Also it was a random phobia she got when she drank a potion to get phenomenal cosmic powers- ie. psionics). Yes, she was evil and while not insane, not exactly right either. She had two companions- a priest who worshiped the Goddess of Pain and a Summoner. Changelings in Palladium are hunted down and routinely killed and their bones used as silverware, but she was mean enough and powerful enough (eventually) that she just killed people who tried. Before that, she disguised herself as an elf and pretended to be a druid- basically mocking everything that they were (both elves and druids) out of spite and hate for them.

Oh dear. Let us see. Like a bunch of other people, I have characters numbering the hundreds, so I can't really find a hands-down favourite. However, I have a few long-running characters whom I always enjoy going back to:

Ser Mordred, of Arthurian legends. I rarely get to roleplay him because there are so few folks who play the lore, but he is definitely one of my favourite characters to play. My version of him is a bitter, socially-stunted young man (ranging in age from seventeen to twenty-seven) with very skewed views on love, friendship, and justice. At the heart of it, he's honorable and good, but circumstance and his own harsh upbringing have molded him a very thick shell of hatred. He desires to be recognised as more than just the King's bastard and to be known for more than just the prophecy of Merlin, but fear runs deep and he only ever sees the disapproval of others. He battles constantly within himself, his mother's constant reminders that his father betrayed them versus the honor and goodwill that selfsame father has shown him since his arrival at court.

Pleasant "Isaak" Claremont, a very polite, delicate man from New Orleans whose family is old money. He came out to his family as gay when he was nineteen, which caused them to disown him. Unbeknownst to them, coming out as gay was tame compared to what he really was: a sociopathic serial rapist and murderer. Upon being freed from the shackles of the Claremont fortune, Isaak went on a lovely little killing spree: his victims were all heterosexual men, pretty ones, ones he would have loved to love, if only they could love him back. His modus operandi is reminiscent of Dahmer, involving dismemberment / dissection, necrophilia, and the occasional cannibalism. No one suspects that gentlemanly Isaak, a sweet librarian with a charming accent, could ever be the one behind it all. Somewhere in the middle, one of his victims got him back in a big way: he was HIV-positive, and during his rape, he infected his killer.

And, uh, that's it for now, I guess. :3

    My favorite charcaters...
    AUGH
    SO FREAKIN' MANY!

I have to say that some of my favorites had to be Mirinca, Kameron Syas, Anaya Jones, Tamani Desher and Listilla.

Mirinca was an alien from a planet called "The Place of Wind." Only she couldn't breathe the air. She's my top favorite because she was one of the characters I played for 3 years, and then the series of RPs that she was in died out. She was so fun to play because she was an innocent kid who loved to tinker with electricity and could use dark matter, wind and magic.
Kameron was a really tall girl who had been in a car crash. She had this long scar that went down her whole face. She was a pretty character, polite and sweet. She was a music teacher, who taught little kids at her conservitory in japan until she had to move. I loved playing as her because she gave me a new perspective on how tall people percieve others.
Anaya Jones is just... in short, adorable. She's one of my characters on here in Taking The Chance. She's one of the most pitiful characters I've had and she's just really small. I think the reason why I like her is because she's fun to draw...
Tamani is another character I have on here. He's snarky, perverted and mean. But he's funny, caring in his little ways and weird. I really really like playing as him because he's a silly character that's a bit too much like a bi-polar version of me. He is really unpredictable and that gives me some creative room.
Listella was a Knight character I had a while back. She's a fighter that is fierce and is bascially a brown haired twin of Riza Hawkeye's demeanor. If you don't know who Riza is, she's a very loyal character from Full Metal Alchemist. Listella is really just a filler character I had, but she was fun to play. ^w^

I used to not use a character more than once, it was just the way things went. Chidori was a one time use, but if I could use her again I would. I have used elements of hers in other characters but she was very satisfying to play in the game she was created for.

Chidori - She was a character I used in a fan based Sekirei game. I enjoyed her a lot, she was small with lots of platinum/whitish blonde hair with big, big gold eyes. I enjoyed playing her because she was a "scrap number" which meant she was discarded by her previous ashikabi. Because of this she lost a lot of confidence and developed some serious abandonment issues. I loved playing her for many reasons; it was fun playing a pure hearted character, her blissful ignorance was comical yet upsetting at times, she was weak and vulnerable alone but her colors shown when in a group but at the same time she feared getting too close to others for she didn't want to end up abandoned like last nights trash again.

These characters came to life here on WTF. I have used rough draft versions of them in the past usually falling under various names but ever since I have created them here I have really taken I liking to them and their imperfections.

Angie - I normally don't ever fall in love with modern day characters such as herself, and in all honesty I can't make too many of those I actually can become interested in. Growing up around stories about Mr or Miss Nobody who has no real value or contribution to society becomes the one given a chance to make a difference when the world/someone is in danger always made me love her type. She is also very dynamic and can throw herself into many different settings. The more experience I get with her the better~!

Junko - An older character, just passed her prime. She is a hot mess, and I love everything about it. Her looks are fleeting, her life isn't anywhere near she ever wanted it to be... all in all she is a walking disaster. Do I ever intend for her life to get better? I'm not sure... maybe I just like putting her through hell (which is probably why she has a masterful drinking problem) but it all depends on whatever world I throw her in.
And I hope you have not a single still moment.

Favorite character(s)? Oh, what a wonderful question to think upon. Like many here, apparently, I've got characters numbering in the multiple dozens, if not a hundred or more. Granted some of them didn't get the play time needed to have a lasting impression on me to rank at all in the "favorites" catagorey for any reason, but others always at the very least bring a smile to my face when I think of them. Some examples:

My very first rp character, Tristal of clan Tremere when I was brought in to the RP world with Vampire the Masquerade. He was embraced at 18, a freshman in college (as I was when I created him), and he'd live a rather bookwormish, neive life. Didn't stop him from ending up a rather playful but sometimes frightening individual in the story though. Some of my favorite moments with him revolved around the city's sheriff who used to flirt with him all the time simply because he was the "new guy". She'd get all flusterd and start stomping away when he didn't play along, and he'd comment to her retreating back, "All you have to do is ask." lol. One of my other favorite moments with him, one I've often told people when discussing my characters, involved an arch where the story ended up in Biloxi, MS, and we were driving the sabbat from the city. We had a Lasombra try to pose as an antitribu and infiltrate our little Elysium gathering. Bastard dropped one of his disciplines to "demonstarte" his power, and I, as the player, motioned for our story teller to come to me. Pretty much it amounted to, "Psst." "what" "cauldron" The fallout from that was awesome as I had to explain to the above mentioned sheriff why I just killed another kindred in Elysium.

One of my favorit DnD characters had to be the "Drunken Paladin of St. Cuthbert" as he became affectionately known to the group. I came late to this particular game, brought in by a friend cause they need extra players. He was playing a dwarf warrior that no one else seemed to like much, but my character got along famously with him because they both liked booze and brawling. Greatest part of the character was irritating the DM. As a paladin of St. Cuthbert, a god responsible for such things as retribution, I played him as a stereo typical paladin in some regards. I would ask constantly, using the paladin's detect evil ability, "Is it evil?" When the dm said yes, I'd have my character iterate something to the effect, "It's time for you to be redeemed for your evil ways." The dm got funny once and had a djinn reply, "Yeah, like I haven't heard that one before." lol. That particular character died a lot, come to think of it. The dm really didn't like him(me, i guess), lol.

Lastly (for the time being as I'm sure by this point I've already bored a lot of people with my wordiness ) going back to VtM, my most outlandish and blatantly evil mofo, Nathaniel, better known as Traval (whom, if any of you read/join the rp I created which will get underway next month will get to see). He started out as my attempt to see if I could play an evil character, as I'm prone to playing either the quintessnetial Paladin type (goody goody) or the true neutral arch types. He was/is for all intents and purposes the epitome of evil, with not a single redeeming personality trait. His whole outlook on the world is, "If it's of no use to my goals in some capacity, kill it." He lies, cheats, steals, murders, manipulates, etc, etc anything and anyone to futhur his goals. The more depraved the act or the more misery it brings to the people around him, especially his alter ego Rick, the more he enjoys it. Some would call him a psychopath if it weren't for the fact that he knows full well the actions he's taking and their ramifications. He simply doesn't care about anything other than himself. I enjoyed playing him if for no other reason than it was a welcome change of pace to play something other than a "hero".

Guess I'll leave it at that for now. Sure I've bored enough of you competely with that long, drawn out rambling as is.

Everyone seems to have such fond things to say about their characters! Haha, I don't know if I have anything like that, but I did have a character, a long while back, that I truly enjoyed writing for.

He was the sidekick to the leading man and in love with a girl way out of his league. He was kind of an idiot - a good-hearted, well-meaning idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. He was ignorant (grew up in a rural/countryside) and very judgmental - brash, you might say. He was a lot of fun to play out and, I think, in the larger scheme of things, he really suited the game and that made it easier to write.

I never had the opportunity to see him until his epilogue days, but, I think, if I had a chance, I would really love to resurrect him (tweak him a bit to add a new dimension to his character).

I haven't done any table-top gaming or LARPing, but, maybe some time when I have more free time at hand, I'll give one of those a try? I always thought table-top was kind of interesting.

Right now, I would have to say my all time favorite character award goes to... Serk and Calister. They've yet to make an appearance on here, but I truly love them. Serk is a cocky, calm, cool, witty guy that knows how to push buttons. Calister is his faith butler that absolutely hates Serk's guts, but, despite this hatred, will go out of his way to help Serk win over the girl he loves (her name is Pepper). These two bicker like a married couple and they, more often than not, end up teaming up to thwart evil. They're a very dysfunctional team, but I think that's what makes them great. Serk's egotistical goofball attitude paired with Calister's bloodlust makes for crazy times.

I think it would be awesome to have Serk and Calister meet Rroy and Nieko (my previous winners). I foresee a lot of their traits in the new crew while, at the same time, being totally different. Serk is a cockier version of Rroy and Calister is a more crazed version of Nieko. But Serk's also way more oblivious than Rroy and Rroy doesn't really enjoy taking his shirt off in public (which Serk does just about all the time). So there's some difference between them.

And now my hand is tingling... so imma stop writing. D:
