    In Training: Brook's Art

I decided to make my own art thread.

As you probably know I'm not very good at drawing... yet. I'll post what I draw here and I would appreciated all feedback I can get. Perhaps I should even make my own deviantArt account? I dunno.

Anyway prepare yourself for some newbie art.

Being new to art sure is hard! But you have a good start, a lot of artists shy away from architecture and settings (myself included) but you're practicing it, which is very good! The best advice I received when I was just starting to be serious about art, was to gesture sketch. It was hard to get used to but helped me immensely down the line!

The idea of a gesture sketch is to quickly get the form of whatever you're drawing, using shapes and quick lines. Most gestures are done in about 30 seconds, though giving yourself a longer limit and slowly shortening the time you have is a good idea too.
Here is an example of an artists gesture sketches from a trip to a dog park: [x]
And here is a more in depth explanation and tutorial: [x]

Most professional artists use shapes to "build" forms, so it's never to late to learn this technique!

I hope you find this helpful. =) That said I would say just keep on practicing, and I'm looking forward to seeing more art! =3

Ok... I want to make a drawing of my Matello character... but it's not going my way. I'm glancing at using Sims instead but dang it I've to draw! :/ Need the practice.

Practice, practice, practice! The more you draw, the better you'll become.
Besides, if you don't like how it turned out, just redraw it. I always redraw old works.

I didn't know that... Sokka is from Avatar: the Last Airbender, right? Have seen one or two episodes of it.
I wasn't aiming for it to look like Sokka though. The picture was my atempt at conveying Matello, my clumpsy thief.

Yupper, the last airbender is right.

And I know you weren't aiming for him. But most characters do share a resemblence to previously created works - with or without your knowledge. I created twins named Sprike and Yukimura (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs18/i/20..._by_Wavikz.jpg <-- Yuki) and then ended up looking like Kakashi from Naruto. We never mean for it to happen, but, odds are, someone else out there had a similar idea.

Though, if I were you, I might look at some Sokka artwork. Just sketching around with him, you can morph his generic look into Matello. It's how I draw Sprike now. I look at Kakashi pictures. I sketch him off to the side. Edit him up when I've finished the sketch. Then, I go into the full blown drawing. Though, as of late, I haven't done any Sprike drawings. :\
