Surviving the Elements

While watching War of the Worlds, I decided I wanted to make a story like The Day After Tomorrow (not related, I know but I love both movies and watching one made me think of the other). Would be set in the here and now and it would revolve around some freak weather. People would need to survive the storm and all. Could keep it simple like that or we could throw in a bit of a challenge. Maybe some ravenous creatures and bloodthirsty humans (maybe not vampires or ghouls... or maybe so).

I figure this would be a free for all type story. The whole 'survival of the fittest' thing. Not sure if it should to be strictly human or if it should be all races go. Could be fun with the latter.

Any thoughts?
