Personality
The Calixte code of the warrior is very present in Aella's ethics. She will lay down her life for her comrades, never hesitating to stand in the way of an attack. Aella has a very strict honor code, and finds most of her importance in her ability to protect and serve. Due to having superior training, however, Aella does have a tendency to be condescending to her less skilled team members. While she may be snarky at times, and occasionally downright cold, Aella would never turn her back on any teammate in a fight. She will go to great lengths to protect her team, but will not stomach insubordination, stupidity, or weakness.
Some may describe her as harsh, but once her companions have proven their worth, Aella is more than happy to call them not only allies, but friends. She does have a quick temper and is nearly incapable of holding her tongue, but at her core Aella is a moral, fair individual.
Equipment / Abilities
Weapons: Unlike most of her comtemporaries, Aella chose to hone her skills with the chakram rather than the javelin. Though chakrams were considered a heathen weapon, Aella found that they got along quite nicely. Her chakrams are extremely sharp and have fine, jagged blades, though one side is always smooth so that she has a handhold. She has her main set of these as well as a backup set. Aella also carries a javelin in case something happens to her chakrams.
Armor: Light leather armor with metal shoulder guards and shin guards. They are made of a lightweight metal so that her movement isn't hindered. Her armor is essentially a well fitting knee length tunic that allows for ease of movement. Light leather gloves and gauntlets, and soft calf skin boots with a riding heel.
Skills: Very very well trained. Disciplined. Skilled in javelin throwing but far more skilled in her ability to wield her chakrams to their full potential. Efficient with a sword, though its not her main choice of weapon. Near flawless horseback rider. Her determination, discipline, and dedication to her comrades are perhaps her best skills. Talented in battle strategy.
Nikias: Nikias has no weapons or armor, though he does carry a pack on his saddle of Aella's supplies. Also has the ability to fly.
History
It is said that at Aella's birth, the great goddess sent a prophecy about the girls future. It spoke of great battle prowess, and the taming of a beast not common to her people. Of course, the prophecy was delivered by the oracle of Calixte, the city in which Aella was born. Calixte was the capitol of Heraclea, an expansive lush kingdom of loosely allied city states. Calixte was the most revered of the states, known for putting out great warriors, leaders, and intellectuals alike. Aella's future seemed written in the stars, as she was born on the city's holiest day. Due to the strange nature surrounding her birth, Aella was raised with very high expectations placed upon her. From an early age, she was put into the Agoge method of training- a type that taught incredible discipline and encouraged the soldiers to see past themselves.
As if the great goddess herself was watching over Aella, she quickly became a prodigy in her education. She was at the top of nearly all of her classes, and the trainers knew that she had a great career as a soldier ahead of her. Upon her graduation, she was awarded a position on one of Calixte's most revered squads. Soon after, Calixte fell into war with the eastern city states, and Aella's squad was sent in to infiltrate the enemy's gates using stealth and not strength. Heraclea was at war, and Aella was in the thick of it.
In the middle of their assignment, Aella's squad was separated by an ambush. Running deep into one of the Holy Forests of Heraclea, Aella found herself alone with little hope of escape or survival. The Holy Forests were traps by the gods, they often led people they were displeased with into them to die. Aella's entrance, however, had been purely accidental. Aella prayed to the great goddess to guide her, and swore that if she was rescued from this situation, she would commit herself to being a priestess of the goddess. A few moments after her fervent prayer, a great black steed came into the clearing where Aella was praying. Looking up and meeting the creature's eyes, it was as if a voice spoke in her head. 'Nikias' it said, and Aella knew that was the beasts name. She noticed then, that the creature had large wings.
Terrified at first, Aella stood from her kneel and began to slowly approach the creature 'Do not be afraid... the goddess has sent me to be your companion.' The same soothing voice spoke to her. The realization sinking in, Aella immediately fell to her knees and thanked the goddess. The goddess asked nothing in return but for Aella to end the war in Heraclea. And so, with Nikias by her side, Aella returned to the Calixte forces. At first they were afraid of Nikias, but they soon realized that the creature was Aella's companion.
Immediately Aella was told to assist the king of Calixte in battle plans, and so she did. Through hardship and courage, Aella and Nikias helped bring the war to an end and being peace to Heraclea once more. The people of Heraclea began to call Aella "Phaesporia", which meant bringer of light. And so, with peace restored to Heraclea, Aella returned to Calixte with Nikias. Given a position of honor in the king's court, Aella spends her days aiding in keeping the peace as well as planning battles and preparing for war should it occur again.
