History
Abigail grew up a sheltered girl. Having been born smack in the middle of Kansas to second generation immigrants she didn't know much of her culture or her home tongue. As far as her parents were concerned, they were a wholesome, All-American family. They didn't really have much room for growth or changing their opinions (something which troubled her greatly considering her sexuality), but they were loving nonetheless. When it came to neighbors needing a cup of sugar or a homeless person who needed a place to stay, they would be the first to give the shirts off their backs. They wanted to instill the ideas of love, kindness, and charity into their children which worked for one of them and not so much the other. Abigail knew the value of helping others, but also the danger that could arise if taken advantage of. She considered herself charitable, but not a doormat versus her sister who utilized the facade of charity to manipulate others.
In the eyes of her sister, Harmony, the world operated in checks and balances, which was why the Sommers was as privileged as they were. Any sort of kindness she performed came with a price whether it was a favor for later or a guilt trip. Unfortunately for Abigail, she was too shy to speak up and everyone else was too oblivious to notice the strangeness behind Harmony so she couldn't do much...at least until she trifled with Abigail's love life. At the time that Abigail was still coming to terms with her sexuality she attempted to have a boyfriend, but found herself completely in love his best friend instead. Being Abigail's confidant, he had already figured this out but so had Harmony. She, in her ignorance, tried to blackmail her sister about cheating on her "boyfriend" and Abigail, in her panicked state, confessed that she was a lesbian.
Great. More blackmail right?
Sort of.
Abigail stepped out of her shell in that moment to tell her sister that she didn't care if she told everyone because she was in love. Harmony, stepping out of her shell, hugged her and promised not to tell on the condition (because there always was one), that she not live in fear like Harmony did.
After high school ended and college began, Abigail left her small town in Kansas and went to the big city where she was met with great change as well as great strife. She wasn't short of admirers, but dealing with them was an entirely foreign concept to her. In high school no one noticed her regardless of if they were men or women. Her best friend said that it was because of her "cute and shy" demeanor, but Abigail couldn't wrap her head around it. It continued far into graduate school with Abigail's shyness ebbing and flowing, depending on her mood and stress levels. The only thing that seemed to change was that she had a relationship...singular. It was her first time being public with a girlfriend and it would soon be her ugliest as the woman wrecked her as much as she built her up. She brought Abby out of her shell, but put her back in as soon as they broke up.
It's been a few years since then, but Abigail has yet to find a steady girlfriend (unless you count science as a girlfriend).
