Synopsis
Rei is a mechanical artist who really wishes her adoptive family would stop trying to use her as a supernatural spy.

Description
Rei is an Asian woman with medium-long black hair, grey eyes, and delicate features that suggest she is approaching her mid-twenties. She stands at about 5'7.

Rei's usual outfits are relatively plain and unassuming clothes, partly due to preference and partly as a method of remaining hidden from "the family". They usually consist of jeans, Converse high-tops, a t-shirt, and gloves (lace ones if it's warm out - leather if it's cold).

Personality
Rei is generally rather quiet and thoughtful when she first gets to meet people, but this is largely an attempt to stall while figuring them out. Once she has made a general assessment on what kind of person she is dealing with, she adjusts to fit the situation. (They may be an introvert who seems to get overstimulated by excessively loud personalities - she maintains a quiet demeanor in order to keep them at ease. They may be an extrovert who takes comfort in taking control of a situation and so she remains passive, allowing them to remain comfortable. On the flip side, the introvert may be the sort who is passive and enjoys some degree of guidance or the extrovert may be uncomfortable in the silence... in which case, she matches those cases appropriately as well.)

By default, she is quiet and relatively controlled - only when expressing herself through her mechanical sort of art forms does she really let go and let her passion rein. Despite her training in a variety of things, she can also be a little naive - sometimes it's an act to stall for time while she figures out what is going on and sometimes she is just genuinely caught by surprise by things.

Equipment / Abilities
Psychometry: the ability to perceive events "experienced" by objects via touch. By touching an item with her bare skin, she can see emotionally charged scenes in which that object was present. (For instance, when trying on a new dress there would likely be no scenes attached to it, though if it was handmade, she might experience a scene or two of the crafting process.) This sense of hers is relatively strong, sometimes including associated smells and sensations the object may have "experienced". However, it is also an unbidden talent and it comes at a price. When touching an object and seeing its past, she can be left vulnerable - the more emotionally charged the scenes and the more scenes there are, the longer she is left "open". Also, more emotionally charged scenes can leave her physically drained to the point of exhaustion. These drawbacks usually force her to wear gloves most of the time.

Mechanical Genius: She's the kind of girl who can see a (damaging) laser gun on TV and, after a bit of work, make her very own soon afterwards... often without really knowing what she's doing or how it works. It's a "guided by intuition" sort of thing that, if she thinks too hard about it, ends up floundering.

History
Rei first lived with a foster family who, long story short, were pretty much jerks and didn't care for her very well. She worked as a mechanic in their shop in order to help out with their failing business. With her combined mechanical genius and psychometry, she pretty much knew how to fix things as well if not better than the mechanics already hired... even at a young age.

Around middle school, she ended up getting recruited (read: sold into) a crime family who specialized in intel (read: secretly blackmailing powerful and important people). She was stylized to the public to be a "distant relative" who, due to tragedy, ended up living with the main family again and was given the name of Yuki Takahashi. She was treated better in her time living there than at any point ever before in her life - it as good for a while. However, the nature of her spying and prying into peoples' lives was draining and it began to eat at her conscious. Rei had only agreed to play along because the family had told her that they knew about her birth parents, something the government hadn't even been able to tell her.

After finding a clue about her parents' identities from a locket she stumbled across, Rei decided to disappear - she fled the Takahashi family and has since been living on her own. Her mechanical art has been her main (and only) source of cash flow since then and her recent garnering of fame has been in turn helpful (for earning money) and not-so helpful (for remaining hidden from the Takahashi family). She now goes by "just Rei", hoping that at the end of the road, she will find out the truth about her birth family and perhaps even the source of her power.
