Physical Description: Leo is exactly 5’11’’ tall with a thin, lanky frame that looks like he grew a lot in a short amount of time. Unlike what one would except from a stereotyped nerd, Leo is not pale and he does go out in sunlight regularly—he isn’t tan but that certain healthy glow that comes from going outside is definitely there. His hair is shaggy and flax-coloured, but is easily sun-bleached to a more platinum shade. His eyes are golden-brown, flecked with green. He has a birthmark on his lower back that vaguely resembles an arrowhead and a small tattoo of the atomic structure of dopamine on the back of his neck.
Leo doesn’t much care about his clothes; as long as it’s comfortable and not too ostentatious he’ll wear it. He also doesn’t care about holes or rips, much to his mother’s chagrin. He does however understand the important of looking nice on certain occasions, and so does keep at least a few trousers and shirts in good condition.

Personality

Personality: → Removed but Not Aloof: Leo is the kind of person who can breeze through life from the safety of his personal bubble, who rarely has to reach out and make contact himself. He's not shy in the slightest, in fact Leo can sometimes be considered quite extroverted; however, he is often too wrapped up in his own thoughts to really notice what's going on around him, thus needs others to approach him first. He has learnt to be content with his own company because it's not often that other people can keep up with him intellectually
→ Oblivious Fool: Leo, by nature and by choice, views the world through rose-coloured glasses. He tries to see the best in everyone, even people he should probably think of as dangerous. This kind of behaviour has made him into something of a pushover. He will do almost anything he's asked to do if the person asking seems like they really need the help--or if they're good at pretending they do. In his defense, this philosophy has earned him very few enemies in his life. When it comes to romantic gestures, all but the most obvious and blatant of advances sail right over his head. He has other things to think about than whether or not the person across the room might find him attractive.
→ Classical Heart: A hopeless romantic by nature, Leo is a sucker for any and all kinds of love stories and his emotions are very easily swayed by a good tale. He cries at almost everything that could be considered moving or touching in some way; though, like many people, he insists that the reason for his tears is that there's something in his eye. Of all stories, Romeo & Juliet is a particular favourite of Leo's, and he has memorized the entire play in both English and French. When it comes to his own romantic gestures however, Leo likes to keep things simple and direct. To him, a single rose that was specially chosen is much more meaningful than a bouquet.
→ Curiosity Hasn't Killed the Cat Yet: His insatiable hunger for knowledge and information can get him into all kinds of trouble if he's not careful. Although he draws the line at the point where in order to continue he has to defy his own morals, until then there isn't a lot Leo won't put himself through to learn something new.
→ Chatterbox: Once a conversation is struck, and his interest grabbed, it's difficult to keep Leo from talking until he's blue in the face. Unfortunately for those looking for a quick discussion, Leo's voracious curiosity has brought him access to all kinds of information on a huge variety of subjects. He could go on for hours if people would let him. It's nearly impossible to remove oneself from the conversation without receiving some kind of promise to pick up the discussion again later--a promise that Leo has a habit of following through on very quickly.

Equipment / Abilities

Talents: → Super Genius: It took his parents nearly sixteen years to arrange an IQ test for their son, and the only purpose was so Leo could attach a number others could understand. It was already clear from very early childhood that, mentally, Leo was leagues beyond his peers and would soon outstrip the adults in his life as well. His IQ score soars into the 200s, well into the "immeasurable intelligence" range. Despite his advantages, Leo has remained rather grounded and hasn't let his genius go to his head, so to speak. It is merely a fact of who he is and makes him no better or worse than anybody else.
→ Ingenuity: If there's a problem Leo can't solve directly, he'll go around it. His thought process is flexible enough to allow him to tackle obstacles from all directions at once until he finds the path that works for him.
→ Two Right Hands: As though a genius IQ wasn't enough, Leo was also born ambidextrous. So far all this ability has helped him do is take notes at a faster pace.

Failures: → Weakling: As if to balance out his brain power, Leo is severely lacking in physical capabilities. He's healthy enough for a boy of eighteen, but he is nowhere near athletic and many things that require more strength and stamina than simply walking, running, and climbing stairs are beyond him. To his credit, Leo is a very fast sprinter over short distances, but he can only go about a quarter of a mile before he runs out of steam. He only has enough upper body strength to lift one or two volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica at a time.
→ Thank You, Mr. Spock: Sometimes Leo just doesn't get it; he tries to think of others feelings and be accommodating, but there are moments he can be cold and even heartless, just by approaching a situation from a purely logical perspective. He can shut out his emotions when he wants to in order to remove unnecessary distractions. What he doesn't always realise, however, is that this mechanical, clinical, Leo can be off-putting and often alienates him from other people.
→ Parlez-vous Français?: Born and raised in Paris, France, Leo's first language is--his mother tongue--is French. He is not totally bilingual, and speaks very little English aside from the works of Shakespeare he has memorized. When he is required to speak English, his sentences are either peppered with French words and phrases, or positively Elizabethan in structure and vocabulary.
→ Foggy Vision: Possibly due to genetics, or possibly because he spends so much time reading small print, Leo needs a very strong prescription of corrective lenses in order to see properly. He is extremely near-sighted, so seeing anything more than a few inches away from his nose is a challenge without glasses or contacts. Typically he wears contact lenses but carried a pair of glasses around with him just in case.

History:→ Early Years: Beatrice was the first child born to the Deveraux family. A healthy baby girl with sandy blond hair and big, brown eyes. She was the parents’ pride and joy, but she wasn’t to be an only child for very long. Two years later, her mother had a son: Leo. He was almost identical to his big sister in appearance; his hair a few shades lighter and his eyes flecked with green and gold. But what set him apart from his sister more than anything was how quickly he developed. By the time he was eight months old he was talking, by his first birthday he was constructing simple sentences, and by the time he was two years old he had the mental capacity and skills of a child five times his age. His parents were astounded, but at a loss for what to do in light of this turn of events. A few months after Leo’s birth his mother was pregnant again. She had three more children within the first three years of Leo’s life—two more sons and another daughter. Leo, though clearly exceptionally gifted, was often glossed over in favour of his younger siblings. His older sister Beatrice, as the oldest, was tasked with watching all of her brothers and her sister. Leo, as the second oldest, was left to his own devices. He was never unhappy, but the frailty of genius is that it craves an audience, and with so many voices at home clamouring for limited attention, Leo was often ignored.
→ School and Teenage Years: With five children came a few financial compromises. Neither of Leo’s parents could afford to send him to a school where his intellect would be challenged. He was forced into the public school system along with all of his peers. He enjoyed himself in primary school; the teachers allowed the young Leo to bring his own books to class, huge encyclopedic volumes on whatever subject had caught his fancy that week. He taught himself to be quiet, to not speak up or answer any of the teacher’s questions unless directly asked. He knew all the answers already, it wouldn’t be fair to his classmates if they never got the chance to show what they knew. Primary school and middle school passed in a tedious blur. There was nobody challenging Leo except himself; his home was too busy for anyone to sit down long enough to engage him. In his early teens Leo found himself drifting further and further apart from the people he shared genetics with; he loved them, of course, but it was a very distant kind of love. One that said he’d be there for birthdays but wouldn’t necessarily look up every time someone came home.
In high school, Leo’s boredom had grown so vast that he was desperate for any kind of alleviation. He found it in the form of private tutoring. Starting in his first year of high school, Leo offered himself as a tutor to anyone who needed help with their schoolwork. He didn’t ask for anything in return at first, he revelled in the mental stimulation he was getting from helping others understand what came so easily to him. After about six months, however, at the urgings of his parents, Leo turned his past-time as a tutor into a part-time job. He was uncomfortable with asking his classmates for money, and so rarely enforced his new policy. It was only thanks to those peers of his that thought he did deserve something that he made any kind of profit at all.
→ Avoraci: In his last few months of high school, representatives from a prestigious academy known as Avoraci arrived to issue a test to prospective students, scouting for the ones worthy of attending their school. The test encompassed every possibly quality a human being could possess: from intelligence to strength to creativity and everything in between. While he failed miserably at all of the physical obstacles, Leo excelled at the logical and creative tasks, earning him a place at what he hopes will be the place where he’ll finally belong.

Other: → Commander: For his sixteenth birthday, and as part of a celebration for scoring so highly on his IQ test, Leo asked for a puppy. He adopted a German Shepherd mix from the animal shelter and named the canine Commander as a partial reference to a series of video games. Commander and Leo were fast friends and have been basically inseparable since the day Leo brought the dog home. The German Shepherd gave Leo the undivided attention he had always felt was lacking in his life. Having someone who would listen to him without squirming like they wanted to leave was a blessing. Commander is fiercely protective of his master and anyone he deems unfavourable can expect growling, barking, and biting if they come too close to Leo. Leo in return is equally as protective of Commander; it's often remarked that the only time his temper flares is when his best friend is threatened.
→ Danger Triangle: While Leo is not adverse to physical contact, anything between his waist and his thighs—on all sides—is strictly off the table. This area is jokingly referred to as the “Danger Triangle” by his family and friends.
→ Ocarina: Although he has never had any formal music instruction outside of public school, Leo is a self-taught ocarina player and is very proud of the fact that he can play most of the songs from the Legend of Zelda.
→ Gamer Geek: Leo is addicted to fantasy games, whether video or tabletop. His favourite tabletop character is a level 20 Shardmind Battlemind.
