As soon as I heard her flatlining, 5 nurses had to hold me back. "AMY!!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face. "We're doing everything we can ma'me!" One nurse said. "Well you're not doing enough!" I snapped. "AMY PLEASE DONT FUCKING DO THIS." I screamed. The nurse shut the door and made me sit and I slumped back, sobbing. This can't be happening. She can't die.. I need her.
-
I couldn't remember anything... I kept coming and going wih it an concept of what time it was. Then... Everything was black. I was in a world of my own. Later on I would learn that I was in a medically induced coma so my brain and body could heal. Since I was in such critical care only family could visit and the hospital called my parents...
(I'm gonna go into third person for now)
Amy's parents rushed to the hospital as soon as thy got the call, but they didn't arrive until the next morning. Martha, her mother, and Thomas, her father, were exhausted and overwhelmed with sorry. They hadn't heard from her much in the past year, assuming she was busy with school. They were taken to her room, past a young women in the hall, and they took her hands."Oh my god Thomas... Look at our baby..." Amy was bruised and battered, half of her face swolen and wrapped in gauze.
-
I sat in the chair, holding my head in my hands. "This is fucking stupid, I should be allowed to visit my fucking girlfriend." I told the doctor. He patted my back. "Soon, okay?"
-
Martha stepped out and noticed the your woman with the doctor,"Excuse me, sir, you're our daughter's doctor, right? We just got here and would like an update and what happened.."
-
”Mrs. Parker, her employer-" "My mother." I added softly. "Was throwing a dinner party, then 2 men snuck into the kitchen and attacked her. Mrs. Parker found her in the pantry and called the ambulance."
-
"No, Amy works at her school, she has an internship there. She never said anything about a new job,"Martha said, shaking her head and rubbing her temples,"What's being done about the boys?"
-
"Thats for the police to decide." The doctor answered. "Amy doesn't go to school anymore." I told her mom. "They kicked her out because she couldn't afford it anymore. I offered to help her pay for it but she said no."
-
"Excuse me, who are you exactly?"Martha asked, raising an eyebrow. Who was this girl anyways? Amy was going to school.
-
I sighed and rose my head, looking up at the older woman. "Her girlfriend."
-
"Well, I'm glad Amy has friends like you, but we are here now and you can go home,"Martha said softly, narrowing her eyes softly.
-
I frowned at her. Why is she so rude? "No, not friend. Girlfriend. As in romantically." I said, glaring right back at her.
-
"No, no, Amy does not like girls that way,"Martha said, noticing the glare in Amy's eyes,"Like I said, we are here now, please leave."
-
I laughed. "This is a public fucking hospital ma'me and I am staying to support my fucking girlfriend because she would do the same for me. And you obviously don't know your daughter. Do I have to show you pictures?" I took out my phone and showed her pictures of us together, some of them of us kissing. "You obviously had no idea what was going on in your daughter's life because you were not there for her. You didn't know she got kicked out of school and you didn't know she was a lesbian. We've been together for almost a year." I took a deep breath and looked towards Amy's room. "And I will come see her." I turned and decided to leave. Once in my car, I broke down in sobs. I was hurt that she never told her parents about me, but I'm more upset about her in a coma..
-
Martha scoffed and Thomas rubbed her back,"She was terribly foul,"Martha whispered before going back into Amy's room and closing the door. She sighed,"As long as we're here, that young woman is going no where near Amy. Plus, she can't get in anyways, she's not family." Thomas only sat down quietly, shaking his head. Martha could be judgmental... Very judgmental.
-
I had to keep going to school, which sucked because I'm so worried about Amy. Every time I went to go visit, I had confrontations with her uptight judgmental mother. I wish Amy would just wake up.. I need to see her.. We weren't very happy with each other when I left.
-
The next time Jez came Martha was asleep at the hotel, it was Thomas' shift. He noticed the young woman in the hall and he stepped out,"How are you holding up?"
-
I looked up at the man who was Amy's father and I smiled slightly. "Could be better.. How is she?" I asked, nodding towards Amy's door.
-
"She's still in a coma, they don't want to wake her up just yet, but she is healing,"He said as he looked back at his daughter.
-
"I just hope she'll be okay.." I said softly. I crossed my arms and took a deep breath. "Listen, I know that you guys don't want me to see her, for some reason.. But all I ask is for five minutes. I need to see her, because last time we talked, right before this happened, we weren't really happy with each other.. Please, sir." I said, with tears in my eyes.
-
"We don't hate you, dear, now go before Martha gets back,"Thimas said, standing watching in the hall.
-
"Thank you so much." I said, and I went inside and sat on the chair next to Amy. I gently took her hand and kissed it. Then the tears wouldn't stop. I rested her hand to my forehead. "Amy, I don't know if you can hear me, but I love you so so much. I'm so sorry. I would give up all the money in the world to have you awake and well. We can live in the cheapest apartment, I don't care, as long as I get to be with you because you are my everything."
-
Thomas listened, and smiled. He was glad to have someone love Amy in such a way... Of coarse, he couldn't get over the way she spoke to Martha or that she was a woman. When he saw his wife enter he knocked on the door,"You might want to get out of here, dear..."
-
"Yeah." I said softly. I quickly kissed her forehead before slipping out and walking down the hall. I was almost out the front door when I ran into Amy's mom. "Oh, hey." I said. I sighed. "I'm sorry for the way I've spoken to you. I made brownies.. I gave them to your husband. I'm not as good as a cook as Amy, but I tried.. Again, I'm sorry." I slipped away before she could say anything back and I went back to school.
-
The next couple of days were determining factors for Amy. IF she didn't wake up there was a good chance she wouldn't, and if she did there would be damage. Then, one day, she opened her eyes.
------------------
Everything was really fuzzy, and I couldn't quite think straight, but I knew where I was and what was happening, for the most part. I was in an accident, my parents were here... I was okay, right? Once I was stable they moved me to a new room upstairs where I could feel a bit more homey.
-
I was at work, busting my ass, when I got a phone call saying that Amy had woken up and was stable. I begged the boss to let me go, but he wouldn't let me. "Fuck you man. I quit. I am going to see my girlfriend." I left and went to the hospital. I figured out she moved rooms and I went up there. I saw her mom and I walked up. "Please, let me see her."
-
"I don't think that's a good idea. How did you know she was here? Or awake?"Martha asked, still not quite happy about this whole thing. Jez didn't make a pretty bad first impression.
-
"The hospital called me. I'm one of her emergency contacts." I sighed. "Look, with all due respect, I just quit my job so I can come down here..." I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "At least tell her I'm here, please. And if she doesn't want to see me, I'll go."
-
Thomas stepped out,"Martha.."
"Not now, Thomas."
"But Martha this may not be a good time to-"
"Thomas, I was just about to let her in there, would you like me to stop?"
"Well, actually..."
"Now, you've been nagging me all week to give this a chance and now I am, what could be so important?" Thomas didn't speak so Martha turned to Jez,"Go."
-
"Thank you." I said, and I walked in and smiled sweetly at Amy. I sat down next to her and took her hand in mine. "Hey sweetheart.. How are you?"
-
"Uhm... Uhm, I'm okay,"I said softly, looking down at our hands. I stared at them for a moment before looking up at her,"How are you?"
