He smiled lightly. "Yeah, I know. My room is in the hallway in between the Kitchen and Living room. Don't be afraid to come in if you wish. Also, it's almost time for dinner. Want anything?"
His eye twitched at the 'one meal' thing. "One meal..." He whispered to himself. "Pizza it is. You can have a whole one if you wish. What kind do you want?" Fallen said as calmly as he could.
Fallen was tempted to laugh and tempted to cry. "Want more than one pizza? I can order two if you wish." 'I swear to the high angels I am going to kill them.' He thought to himself.
"All right then. I'll go order it." He said when he walked into the Kitchen. On his way to the phone, he pressed a switch near it, causing a 78" flat screen to come out from the floor in the living room. "The controller should be next to you. Watch whatever you want." He then picked up and called the best pizza place he knew. 'This girl deserves some of Mario's pizza. Hopefully she'll like it. It costs a bit too much to order Pizza from Italy, but he had to make a good impression on her.
He hung up after he ordered and laughed at her comment. "E 'piuttosto fresco non è vero? Aveva il miglior ragazzo che so configurarlo per me." Fallen explained to her, having forgot to switch back to English.
He shook his head as he realized that he said that in Italian. But seeing her expression and the TV he realized that it probably wouldn't had interested her anyways. "Food will be here in 30 minutes."
He walked over and sat down next to her. "What cha watchin'?"
"Oh. I see." He picked up the remote and pressed a small button on the bottom of the remote. "It should be working now."
"Well yeah sure. I never said I was gonna change the channel. I just fixed the remote so you can change it if you want to." He stated.
"Not really. I hardly watch the TV anyway. It's just here for guests, and you technically, since you live here." He said. "I was planning on selling the thing, but since you like it so much, I won't."Fallen told her with humor in his voice.
"Ah..." He knew what she was getting at, but the last part of that sentence bothered him somewhat. 'But I'm not living....' "Well, I used to watch stand up comedy shows. But that was about five years ago, when I turned eighteen." Here he stopped himself. 'I... forgot... I would've been twenty-three last year.' Fallen thought solemnly.
"There's nothing wrong with stand-up..." He said quietly. "I have watched Smallville before, but it didn't appeal to me. The only other thing I remember watching was NCIS with my friend's grandma, but that was only once and after my... I mean, a funeral." He stumbled over his words for some reason, and almost lead on about him being dead. He really didn't want to frighten her. She was the first friend she had after the accident.
"It's nothing." He said, getting up. That was a terrible affair he really didn't wanna bring up again. He looked at his watch. "Food should be here soon. I'll wait outside for it."
"It's your decision. I won't force you to do anything, if that's what you are worried about." He said gently. "You are welcome to, but when he gets here, he doesn't speak English." Fallen told her with a soft smile. Mario was a good man. It still surprised him at how fast he could fly without wings. He quietly walked out side, waiting for the food to arrive.
He looked back at her, "I don't mind." Fallen smiled at her. "What's up? Something wrong?" He could feel the awkwardness she was feeling, and the uncharacteristic 'Uhm' didn't help either.
"I've got that effect on people." He said as he gently ruffled her hair. "Don't worry. I won't intentionally hurt you." Fallen sat down next to her.
"Well... what do you want to know?" he said apprehensively.
"October 27th is my birthday. My past? That's kinda vague. When I was seven, my parent's abandoned me. When I turned ten, I got a scholarship to allow me to continue school and pay for an apartment. When I started High school, I was on the fencing team, and got enough prize money to pay for the house behind us. After graduation..." He trailed off and mumbled the rest.
"... After graduation, I got in a car crash with my drunk parents... There were three casualties that day..."
"..... I was the third casualty......" He said looking away.
"I don't know how... But I died that day, five years ago. But I didn't know I died until I looked around and saw that a pole was sticking out of my chest and back. Then... The wings appeared. And people looked and stared... I should be twenty-three today, twenty-four in a few months... but I haven't aged. I'm still in my eighteen year old body..." He looked at the ground. "The scar itches from time to time. I had to repair my car. I never went to what I heard was the Angel's Sanctuary. I've just been here... suffering by myself. I've tried to end it before, but apparently Angels can't die again." He said this as he gestured to a very faint scar on his neck. "The machete bounced off my neck." Fallen stood again. "So I promised myself, I'd try as hard as I could to make the lives of you living people as good as possible. Then the suicides started. And I failed so many p-people." A single, solitary tear ran down his face. "So many dreams, ruined. So many fates, changed. So many lives, taken. And I couldn't do anything about it." His wings appeared in a flash of light. "These Golden Wings? They are supposed to represent Brilliance, and Infinite wisdom. But all they remind me of is the failures I made.... The people I couldn't save..." He voice was cut off by sobbing and he hid his face in his hands.
Fallen just rubbed his eyes and flexed his wings out. "I'm sorry. You didn't need to hear my problems." He said in a scratchy voice. 'Pull yourself together man. You promised yourself you would be strong. You can't let more people get hurt, and crying over your failures won't help the people you have yet to save.' "The Pizza should be here soon. I need to wash my face and hide my wings again." He pulled out $500 and gave it to Ella. "That's for Mario. He flew here all the way from Italy to deliver the pizza. I can trust you with this, Right?" Fallen asked wings enveloping them both.
He laughed lightly at her reaction. "Yes from Italy. I wanted to treat my new family to the best pizza I knew of. Mario owns a really good place in Italy. I met him during my travels. He's a nice guy. Knew him before I died." Fallen also ran a hand through his hair. "The Pizza only costs fifty dollars. The rest is for jet fuel. He should be here any second." He moved away and walked back inside, wings folding into his back.
Fallen was waiting in the kitchen with his shirt off and an ice pack on the center of his chest. "You can set the food anywhere." He said when she walked in the house. "Plates are in here if you need 'em."
"You all right? Your face seems a tad bit red." He said with an innocent look on his face.
Despite the warmth and serenity that accompanied the other gentleman's handshake, Kirby was a bit off put by his question. "Yes sir, I've been in charge of the church across the road for over fifteen years now. I do my best to serve the Lord each and everyday." Although he wouldn't admit it, his faith had faded within the last few months, it was borderline blasphemous, but given the current circumstances and the deterring faith of those in the town, it was getting difficult to encourage the practice, even for himself. "Well, yes. Sadly the rumor is correct. Though I know nothing of the actual 'whys' of what's been occurring, I've been aiding those in grieving, and for the unfortunate souls, putting those victim of suicide to rest. I just pray that Saint Dymphna guide them to Heaven." His faced tensed into a frown as the several burials he performed within the last week irked his mind, "The people, they are losing faith. I assure them so as long as they accept Christ as their Savior, those who have taking their own lives will have eternal peace. But many are questioning the mere existence of God. The attendance at the church have been less than favorable. It's resulted in earlier closings, and a sorry reputation, I'm afraid." A gentle, almost inaudible sigh escaped his lips. "I apologize, I'm rambling. Welcome to our humble town, Miguel. Where might you be from?" His expression was slightly forlorn, but it was masked by a gentle smile.
Miguel was caught off guard. He hadn't thought about making up a human past or something. So, he didn't know what to say in response. He kept quiet for a moment. As he was an angel he mustn't lie. Eventually, he decided to tell him a half-truth. "I'm from Italy. From Florence, to be more accurate." Although it wasn't a lie he felt that it wasn't right to tell a half-truth to a priest.
He gave a small smile and put down the ice pack, revealing a circular scar in the center of his chest. "Sure." He gently took the plate from her, and walked to the Pizza. He grabbed four slices and put them on the plate. Fallen then walked back and gave her the pizza.
"Sorry." He said as he took a slice back and noticed her messing with her sleeve. "Don't worry. I won't let it happen again."
"I won't let you get hurt again." He said as he took away the piece she didn't want and ate it.,"I promise."
He felt the awkward coming off of her. Fallen changed the subject. "Is the pizza any good?"
KiriHe finished his slice soon afterwords. "I'll tell Mario. He willThe 6-sided dice lands on 1
enjoy the praise."
Feeling that it was the right thing to do, he got up and walked to Ella. Without saying a word, he hugged her.
He let go after a few moments, and went to sit in the living room, letting her finish her meal.
He heard the door to her room shut and looked at the clock on the wall. 'It's only 7:00 and the sun is still out. Another two hours and I'll go ahead and take her stuff back for her.' Fallen ran a hand through his hair. 'I really should put on a shirt...' Soon he got up and went to his room, barren from everything but a bed and closet door. He opened his closet and picked out a plain dark grey shirt and put it on. He shifted uncomfortably when the shirt rubbed against his irritated scar. Soon enough he walked towards the living room but noticed that she didn't finish her pizza. Curious he walked to Ella's room and looked in after knocking lightly. "You all right? You didn't finish your pizza. Get full already?"
"7:00" he stated. "We could just go and get your stuff now if you wish."
"Don't worry about language. Say what you want when you want. Just don't be outrageous. Unless you are bleeding a lot. Then you have free reign to say whatever you want." He walked over to her and extended his hand to help her up. "You won't have to worry about me getting your stuff now. They can't hurt me. I can't die again." Fallen told her, hoping that she wouldn't worry about him. He would be flatter that some one actually cared enough though. "You can chose which way you wanna go. We could walk, I could drive us, or I could carry you while I fly."
"All right then." He said as he pulled her up off the bed. "Walking it is."
"Yes, as I have no Idea how to get to your house." He said as he walked out of the room. He went to a little broom closet he had and got a short black case, opened it and quickly moved it's contents to his pockets. There, he opened the front door and waited for Ella.
"Oh wow, Florence! That is quite a ways to travel." Kirby, although still suspicious of Miguel's motives, let alone species, was easily convinced of his half-truth. Up until now, he hadn't noticed the thin Italian accent the gentleman had, it seemed mature, much unlike the 'wise guys' and 'jersey' accents of the modern age. "What brings you to our quaint little town? Friends? Family? The mystery?" He smiled warmly again, assuring Miguel that he meant no harm.
