I frowned when he looked down at his leg. This would be very hard.. he probably canr be a life guard anymore.. I saw how he was looking at his arm. "You're not missing anything on your arm.. it was just badly sliced." I said, softly and sadly. I ran my hand through his hair slowly as I kissed his forehead.
I looked up at her. "Its just very dangerous." I said. "Im just thinking it'd be easier without them.".. I said softly.
-
"What about the girl? Is she okay?"I asked softly.. Hopefully I didn't do this for nothing...
"Or maybe don't take such risks,"I said, shaking my head softly.
-
"Shes fine.. shes in the next room over." I said. "Youre a hero.." I said softly. "She got out of surgery this morning, doctors said that she will be out soon."
I nodded, and sighed softly. "Lets try to go a day without using them as much as possible." I said, and I sat on the couch, running my hands through my hair.
-
"Good... Good,"I whispered, nodding softly as I rested my head back and closed my eyes.
"Okay,"I said softly, kissing the top of his head as I sat beside him.
-
"They said that they may release you tomorrow if youre xoing well." I said, stroking his hand with my thumb. "How do you feel?" I asked .
I took her hand and pulled her into my lap. I placed a sweet kiss on her neck then looked up at ger, smiling slightly.
-
"Weak... It all hurts badly... Could you ask someone for some pain medicine?"I asked, looking up at her with a sigh. I was dizzy and cold, tired and in pain... It felt like hell.
I have him a gentle smile, kissing his forehead.
-
"Of course.. Hang tight.." I said softly, quickly getting up and telling the nurses that he needed pain medicine. They nodded and got some for him right away, when they left, I walked back in, and I sighed. "I'm so sorry.. I wish I could do something to help. I feel awful.." I said.
The next morning, I opened my eyes, and I pulled Carter close to me, kissing her neck gently and lovingly. "Wakey wakey.."
-
"There's nothing you could have done... Nothing any of us could have done,"I said with a shake of my head, sighing softly.
I opened my eyes and groaned,"Wwwhhhhaaaaaattt?"
-
A few weeks passed, and he was being released, finally. He was on crutches for a bit untill he got his prosthetic. I opened my car door for him and helped him inside. His wounds were almost completely healed, thank god.. I had felt that our relationship damaged a bit during all of this, but I was not going to nag and complain. He helped me, time for me to help him.
"What does the fox say?" Then I began to tickle her, laughing softly. I loved annoying her sometimes, it was great.
-
I couldn't drive... Ride my bike... Swim... Hell I couldn't even walk right. I thanked her when she helped me into the car and rubbed my eyes, staring at the place where my knee sat, nothing below it,"Where are we going?"
I squealed and screamed, tossing around my arms and elbows,"Quit! Ahhhh!!"
-
"Your home." I said softly, and I started the engine, and I backed out, and drove him to his house. I pulled into the parking lot and I opened the door for him and helped him out.
I chuckled and stop tickling her, and I kissed her temple softly. "That woke you up." I said in her ear, kissing it.before standing up and rubbing my eyes. Seeing we had power, that was nice.
-
I stared at the sandy beach between the parking lot and my shack and I sighed. This would be hard. I stuck my crutches deep into the sand, taking the first step. It was hard and I got close to falling, but I gotta the door and opened it,"Ladies first..."
I reached and pulled him back,"Staaayyyy..."
-
I quickly helped him recover from a near fall, and when he opened the door, I smiled faintly, an walked in slowly, closing the door behind him. "Sit." I said. I didnt want him getting hurt.
I chuckled, and I laid back down, pulling her so her chest was against mine firmly "Yes?" I said slowly, kissing her face in multiple places, just being silly
-
"I'm okay, love,"I said, leaning in and kissing her cheek,"Let me get used to the place again, alright?"
I grinned and grabbed him by the chin, kissing him slowly and tenderly.
-
I smiled when I felt his warm lips graze my cheek. "Alright.. But I'm staying for a bit.. I mean, I just want to help if you need it." I said, and I took his hand, giving it a gentle caring squeeze.
A smile tugged on my lips when we kissed, my hand running down her side and squeezing her hip playfully. "How did you sleep?" I asked, slowly pulling back from the sweet kiss.
-
"I want you here,"I said, pulling her closer to me,"I really appreciate your help."
"It was okay,"I sat up and sighed softly,"I have a lot of energy ..."
-
"Anything for you.. I mean anything." I said, kissing his cheek, and cuddling up to his warm body. He was so gentle, and sweet.. he didnt deserve this. Losing his leg is terrible.. and it upset me. That I couldnt have jumped in the water and helped him..
"Just okay? And how about.. we... go out? On a run or something." I said, maybe it could help burn some energy.
-
"Do you mind if we go sit on the beach? I miss being out there,"I said softly, sighing. This was hard. Really hard. And sometimes I felt smothered... But she was doing it because she loves me... And I would never want to lose that.
"Sure,"I said with a nod, shooting out of bed,"I felt so jittery..."
-
"Of course." I said, glancing outside. It was sunset. Beautiful perfect time to do so. I helped him up, and outside. And just walked by him and made sure he didnt fall with the crutches ans sand. "Just.. let me know if you ever want space. I just want to make sure you dont hurt yourself." I said softly. Cause I had been around him alot. I didnt want to make him think I was clingy or a crazy girlfriend.
My eyes widened at how she jumped up, and was ready to go. "Damn, I wish I was like that." I said, standing, and getting dressed, still a bit tired. And there she was, she could probably run miles, and be fine.
-
"Sit with me,"I said, lowering myself to the ground and embracing her into my arms, feeling more at home in the sand with the water close and salt in the air,"I couldn't imagine living through this without you. You are an amazing help, and I appreciate you looking out for me. Okay?"
"Can we please just go? Please?"I was jumping on my toes, swinging my arms.
-
"Okay.. I will always be here.." I said softly, then nodded, and I kissed him softly then pulled back, looking back at the water, then the sunset. I grabbed some sand, and just let it run through my fingers, really loving how soft it was.
"Okay, okay." I said, putting my hands on her shoulders to stop her from jumping. "Calm." I said, "Deep breaths." I teased, not able to keep a straight face. "Come on, ill race you to the end of the path." I said, running out the door
-
"Still want me to teach you how to swim?"I asked softly, watching the sand as the grains slipped out of her grasp, mesmerized.
I bolted out the door, not a lightening speed, but at the fastest rate in which my legs could carry.
-
I looked up at him. Surprised at his question. I glanced at his leg, then back up at his eyes. "I-I.. dont know.. still sounds very. Scary to me." I said, picking up another handful of the sand, moving it from one hand to another, just mindlessly.
When she passed me, I was shocked. Ive never seen her un to fast. I picked my speed up, and I still couldnt catch her. "God.. damn!" I yelled, breathing heavily, then I stopped, leaning over, my lungs on fire.
-
"Just a pool... You would be able to touch the bottom,"I said, smiling softly, taking her hand, capturing the sand between our palms.
I turned around and realized he had stopped, running over and grinning, not even out of breath,"Jeez, old man. What's wrong?"
-
"Can you.. still swim though?" I asked, looking up at him, my cheeks getting a bit red. Then I let the sand fall between our hands.
"Shush.." I said, coughing. "Weve ran for about half a mile now." I said, looking up at her. "Youre still not tired?"
-
"I'm going to learn,"I said with a sigh, looking down at the stump of my leg. I shook my head,"The beach is my life. I can't stop living because this happened to me... Plus, the doctor said it would help me relearn my balance, strengthen my muscles... We will both learn,"I said as I looked up at her.
I shook my head softly,"Not at all... I feel fine."
-
His attitude was amazing about all of this. I was so proud of him I nodded, and I kissed his cheek softly. "Okay.. we will, and I know you can do it." I said, smiling slightly.
"Christ.." I said, remembering I had forgotten my inhaler. Stupiiiid. "Lets go back. Im walking though." I said, and turned around and began to head back
-
I sighed softly and nodded,"I'm sure as hell going to try,"I said as I stared out at the water. Would I ever go out there again? Surf? Swim? I couldn't help but doubt... My leg was gone...
I walked beside him for a little while, worried. He didn't look well,"Want me to get you some water?"
-
"I know you will." I said, and when he looked out at the water, I saw a flash of hurt in his eye, and I rested my head on his shoulder.. the sunset was so beautiful tonight..
"Im okay. We are." I paused, and coughed. "Almost there." I said, I felt light headed. But I was good- as of now.
-
The next couple of days were slow.. She had to work and I stayed at home, trying to adjust. Things like showers seemed impossible... Doing dishes of folding laundry, I always had one hand on a crutch.
I watched him until we got in the door, his face looking better,"You shouldn't have pushed so hard.."
