We can add in dragons, too. Like, maybe that's what caused the tension. And eventually it turns into a power struggle. Of course, we can take bits and pieces from all of these ideas. We don't have to stick with one idea, and if any part of my idea just doesn't seem like a good idea, we can scrap it.
ZOMG! What if K5, just chillin' the entire time, ends up being the ultimate power! Like, 1-4 start this war, and then 5 comes in and BOOM. 5's the winner. Also, I don't know why a kingdom would send their royals as spies. So, maybe one sent the prince because their kingdom was busy with some crap and he was the only one that was trustworthy and available. And the princess, maybe she was strongheaded and chose to go on her own. Like, in some sort of royal conference, the counselors noted the arranged marriage, and she suggested that someone go in to figure what's happening, but they're all like, "Psh. No big deal. We don't need to send anyone." And since the last time all 5 kingdoms were together, she was a baby, no one would recognize her, so she decided to go on her own. And the prince is maybe like 6 or 7 years older than her, like... he was at her baby blessing thing (think sleeping beauty, there. Phillip was at Aurora's blessing.)
I have an idea. Of course, you can tear it apart as much as you want, too. Indoor plumbing noted. So, my idea: Imagine, 5 kingdoms. Not on the brink of war, but there is definitely some tension. They can all feel it. Two of those kingdoms decide to act before the tension turned into an all out war. They decided to marry their children (so, the arranged marriage comes into play). The other kingdoms see this. One kingdom has the bright idea to send their prince as a spy to see what these kingdoms are planning. Another kingdom has the same idea and sends their princess. (And thus the royals as spies come into play.) Kingdom number 5, just chillin' in the background.
Somehow my brain jumped to one country thinking that the other was making secret deals with dragons XD and the accused country is like "You are crazy! Dragons don't even exist you loons!" First country "Thats what you want us to believe!!" XD sorry it made me giggle so I had to share. you can ignore this comment
Hmmm.... Well depends on the starting point we take I guess, I usually see one character more clearly than the other and thats when I choose if I haven't yet. (one requirement.... there will be indoor plumbing.... even if its crude. I don't care, must have water flow and ability to flush poo... its a thing... I don't care if they carry clubs and grunt at eachother. they will be house broken characters XD) So what are the kingdoms going to be at war for? Thats a good place to start for setup. Land, power, money, trade routes, rights to something? Did one commit an offense against the other? Did one steal something? or was accused of steeling?
I have no preferences. I'll play whatever youd rather not. Hmmm...So, spies. Medieval times. . . Kingdoms on the verge of war.
oh, and out of curiosity, do you have a preference for gender? or anything else?
