H I S T O R Y
Nixie was a child born of unfortunate circumstances. Her parents, loving at first, gave birth to just the sole daughter before everything seemed to quickly fall apart. Her father had continuous affairs with various women, which quickly led the two to divorce. With her father's aggressive and unpredictable nature, he was granted limited time with his daughter and even then, he didn't seem overly pleased about the time they spent together.
She spent most of her life growing up with her mother and new stepfather, the two were loving, caring and the perfect parents. Being with them vs her father was like night and day and it seemed that the happier his ex-wife was, the more bitter he became. Every time Nyx went to stay with him for a weekend, there was always a different woman there, sometimes multiple. He never tried to hide was he was doing and almost seemed to intentionally make sure their 'events' were loud enough to be heard.
She never brought it up to her mother and stepfather, not wanting to worry them about what was going on. That and her father planted it in her head that they wouldn't believe her anyway. It was only for two days, she would tell herself. Two days out of the month, that was it, she could last that long.
Two days a month, at least until one day her mother and stepfather got into a car accident. It was a winter day, Nyx was at school while the two had, unbeknownst to her, gone to the hospital for Nyx's mother was pregnant, the results of that trip were an intended surprise for the pre-teen. However, instead of exciting news of being an older sister, Nixie was give the horrible news that, on the way home, a truck lost control on the ice and hit her parents' vehicle, killing her stepfather, mother and unborn brother almost instantly.
Hearings went on to see whom would take care of Nyx and having had time with his daughter over the years, her father was brought in as well. The girl was left, in trust, the assets of her deceased mother, her stepfather's family receiving his portion. Of course, Nyx's father wanted access to those funds, so he quickly stepped up to taking care of his daughter. She was kept with her Aunt for a few months though as the court once again reviewed his behavior record; the record looked into his work, ability to pay bills, crime record, etc. He passed the review and still underage and afraid to say anything, Nyx was sent to live with her father.
Those years were terrible, the women continued to visit, never the same one twice. Her father was not a nice person, not at home, not while he was drunk. He never did anything like /that/ to her, but he was abusive, blaming Nyx for why his life was the way it had been and how she was only there so he could get the trust money from her once she had access to it, for her mother had listed only her as heir to it.
Nyx became really good at hiding the wounds, or coming up with stories to keep people from prying to much into her home life. She never talked about it, who would believe her anyway?
When her father wasn't drunk, he was either avoiding her, not home or with his next 'conquest'. Nyx spent most of her time writing, or sneaking out after curfew to sing or dance, something to get the painful emotions out, even for a moment.
