This was a time when the Mongol Invasion made it rain crimson over the land, but Mei Ling's parents did their very best to keep her childhood as tranquil as possible. She was born in a rather privileged family, for she was known as the young princess of the Zhu Clan. Being born within Chinese aristocracy, there were certain behaviors she had to adopt. She was a girl of beauty and elegance, and she possessed a brilliant and intelligent mind. Her father was gone most of the time due to the war, so she mainly spent her time with her mother. She taught her all about how females within the noble families were supposed to act, and she became young Mei Ling's role model.

Her childhood mainly consisted of innocent play, academic studies, and other practices. However, as the war raged on, Mei Ling's shelter was corrupted. First, there was news of her father's death. This made anguish crash over her and her mother like a tidal wave, but they knew they had to be strong during these times of hardship. Mei Ling's mother tried so hard to keep her safe, but all her efforts were soon proven to be in vain. Mei Ling's family couldn't hide her forever, and soon the Mongols were at their front door. In the night, they slaughtered all of the men and elderly of her Clan, but they kept some of the young and beautiful women alive. This included Mei Ling and her mother, along with a few of her other relatives.

What awaited them was a fate far worse than a quick, snappy death.

Back then, it wasn't too common, but some women were sold as slaves to rich and powerful men of other countries. Call it an ancient black market of sorts, and Mei Ling and her mother ended up caught in it. The Mongols were attacking everywhere from Europe to Asia, and there were many royals eager to buy a beautiful woman for their own entertainment. Mei Ling ended up getting separated from her mother after they were captured, for they were grouped up by their ages. Since the day they ripped her out of her mother's arms, she's never seen her face again. Mei Ling has no idea what became of her, but she does know about her own fate.

She ended up being sold to some royal family located in Europe. She didn't understand half of what they were saying, nor why they did half of the things that they did. She faced violation, abuse, and sheer torture daily. All she could understand was that she was going to die there in the cellar where she slept. They hardly ever fed her, and some of the guards who watched her took pleasure in slapping her around. Eventually, after dealing with such horror, she lost all her emotions entirely. In the end, when she finally couldn't take it anymore, her mind and soul were completely clear. She saw this as her way of winning, for she didn't let what those people put her through break her in the end.

However, after all of that, there was still a certain fire lurking in her soul. Though she didn't let the pain and anguish of her last few moments drive her over the deep end completely, she couldn't help but feel dissatisfied with how her life ended up. This unsatisfaction grew larger and larger until something in her spirit changed. There was something she wanted; something more that she didn't get. Whatever this fire was, it developed into a raging inferno that changed her entire being. Soon, she wasn't just some spirit wandering about the place..


Years and years went by as she lived her life in Limbo, the world where spirits of all kinds roam. She learned multiple languages, enhanced her newly found skills, and awaited the time when she could pick a host of her very own. Centuries went by, and soon she came across a soul that resembled her own. It reminded Mei Ling of what her life was like before the Mongols came along and corrupted it all. This soul resided in a young girl known as Serena Sinclair, a human that was a mixture between Caucasian and Asian descent. After investigating further, Mei Ling realized that this girl's Asian ancestors were relatives of her own Zhu Clan.

She came to the girl when she was still young and innocent, meeting her within a dream. Unlike most humans who are skeptical of such supernatural beings, this young girl accepted Mei Ling with open arms. She can still recall Serena's first words to her: "Wow, you're so beautiful!" Such innocent and chaste words actually made their way into Mei Ling's numb soul, creating a spark of feeling within her normally emotionless nature. With that, she chose this young girl to become her host. Ever since then, they've always been together. Serena became something like a younger sister that Mei Ling never had.

Not too long after their meeting, however, Serena was faced with a great deal of hardship. Her mother fell ill and passed on, meanwhile her father chose to take his own life soon after. Mei Ling was with Serena all through this, and she taught her some ways to cope with it all. Being that the two were like mirrors of one another, almost physically and mentally, it came naturally to the girl to adopt the same behaviors that Mei Ling once did. They could relate to one another on an intimate level, and Mei Ling helped her the best way she knew how. Through all Serena's hardship, Mei Ling remained by her side and taught her everything she knew.

As Serena aged and matured, Mei Ling remained in contact. However, soon things began to grow quite disturbed within Limbo. Mei Ling chose to keep her distance from others like her, but things were beginning to grow rather rowdy around her. Soon, it became impossible to ignore her surroundings. Worried about all these mysterious happenings and eerie occurrences, Mei Ling warned Serena to be careful. Curious, Serena decided to see for herself just what was going on. Since Serena was already in Brookfield, it wasn't too hard to do a little digging. Serena then complied with her guardian's decision to enroll her into Armstrong High.

Given everything going on, Mei Ling continues to keep a close eye on Serena, ready to protect her should these disturbances knock at their door.
