Anyone who had ever seen him heal can answer that for you. Whenever he heals, he makes sure to harm his patients in the process. And, of course, that's an obvious no-no. History

"Should we start with once upon a time, then?"

Adam was abandoned as an infant. A passerby found him crying, covered in his own blood in a dumpster in the town's alley one night and immediately sent baby Adam over to the nearest hospital. To the absolute wonders of the doctors, there wasn't a single scratch on him. What a miracle, wasn't it? But now, what do we do with him? What else could we do? We send him to an orphanage, of course!
So, that's how Adam ended spending 8 years of his life in Sunny Shine, a place of colorful rainbows and—you guessed it!—sunshine! But, ever since little Adam Evans arrived in the joyful orphanage, things took quite a turn. No, don't close the tab just yet. We won't bore you with childhood trauma of being the victim of bullying. Why, of course not! Adam Evans was not a victim and had nothing to be scared of. In fact, other children were afraid of him. No one dared to get close to Adam. He didn't find happiness in their company, anyway. He only finds it in their pain. Oh, how he loved giving them pain. Such joy!

"Now, where were we? Oh, yes."

He was recruited by the leader of the pack not long after that. It didn't take long for them to realize his healing abilities after reading the his monthly reports. And the orphanage was more than glad to send him away.

"Ouch, and I thought we were family."

Adam's bullying habit was inhibited once he joined the pack. He was required to perform healing from time to time to sharpen his powers. However, Adam grew gradually depressed as time went by. And post a very critical healing, where he was required to heal a severe burn after a fire near the city, Adam felt overwhelmed by his emotions—or seemingly, lack of—and started cutting. He didn't cut deep. Just enough for him to feel again. This turned into a habit until he was discovered and promptly due for an appointment with the pack leader.
They discussed his condition and that was when he first knew of his weakness. So, knowing the cause of his depression, Adam tried to do the very opposite of healing—hurting. And the sweet taste of pain on another's face was the same as it had always been for him—pure bliss.

"And they lived, happily ever after. The. End."

Well, of course he still heals. But, doesn't mean he has to be gentle at it.
