History

Born in a town along the border lands of Camelot, John was forced to grow up quickly after his mother died giving birth to him and his father died in a fire (unknown how it started). It is because of this that he got involved with gun gangs from an early age, armed posses that walked around town for the sake of 'protection' in lieu of a sheriff or a true Gunslinger. From his time with the gang, John learned how to shoot, becoming particularly skilled with the rifle and revolver, and fighting dirty as well as teaching himself how to read from old books. One day, bandit outlaws fell upon the town and a large shoot out occurred where John was the only living survivor afterwards. With no one to protect and no place to call home (for the whole town had been burned down in the battle), he travelled to the capital city of Camelot as he had always wanted to do.

It did not take long for John to gain the enmity of a local Gunslinger, who did not take kindly to outsiders and considered John to be a threat to the prestige of Gunslingers. Riff raff in other words. One day, the Gunslinger simply called John out to a duel without any warning and subsequently lost. John had proven the better, but other Gunslingers were nonetheless offended that one of them could be bested by someone like him. More Gunslingers challenged John and one after another they all lost. After the 7th, by that time it was more a matter of vengeance than putting down the newcomer, but John had already fled Camelot, knowing better than to stay around where he wasn't wanted. He would not come back for another 4 years.

For the next few months, he wandered around aimlessly, living in the wild lands to avoid the chance of encountering another Gunslinger of Camelot. At first it took some getting used to, but John was adaptable if nothing else and quickly figured out how to survive on his own. Eventually, his wanderings took him to a seaside town far away from Camelot, where he embarked on a steamship to America. There, he met the love of his life and an old smithy who took him as an apprentice, but not before being mauled by a predatory animal he had never seen before and getting healed by an Indian shaman (at which point, John had gained an interest in learning magic). As his typical run of luck went, the girl and the old smithy died at the hands of bandits, which drove John to the edge of madness in his desire for revenge. Even after achieving vengeance, John fell into heavy drinking until he sought help from the Indian shaman who healed him.

Unbeknownst to him, John had been sent to the fabled city of Atlantis where he could heal mentally and emotionally, but he has no memory of this. All that he remembers after visiting the Indian shaman is waking up in the lands of Camelot, where he spent the next few months wandering around from town to town until the war in Avalon broke out. Remembering his interest in magic, he went to the capital to seek the Merlin, but also because he is a man of Camelot, despite how poorly life had treated him there. He will not abandon his homeland in times of strife.
