If Gianavel could be described in one word, that word would be "solitary". The image of the "tall, dark stranger", he is a man of little words and even less emotion. One wouldn't be in the wrong to call him stoic or reticent: indeed, his mannerisms are downright laconic. Aloof and enigmatic, Gianavel will literally hold people at arm's length until he warms up to them and deems them worthy of trust; don't hold your breath, though, since that will take a very, very long time.

Many who have interacted with him would remark on his straightforwardness. There is no sugar-coating with this man; he will say things as it is, even if the truth hurts like hell. Though he is generally polite, his lack of emotion and his bluntness of speech often lead to others viewing him as harsh, apathetic, and cold-hearted. Many would be surprised to know that Gianavel isn't blunt out of cruelty, but rather out of social naivety. Because of his rather lonely childhood, he never really developed the social skills needed to express himself, and so only says what he thinks.

None can deny, however, that he is incredibly skilled. He is a man of his word, seeing any and all assignments he is given to the end and with complete thoroughness. His diligence in his line of work, his adeptness in the skills required, and the devotion he pours into serving his clients is unmatched in the Gienah Fraternity, rightfully earning him the title "Shadowstalker". Despite all appearances, Gianavel isn't truly without heart. Behind the impassive face is a man with the noble, chivalrous soul of a knight, a gentle soul that is made startlingly clear in his actions. A steadfast individual, Gianavel is incredibly protective of and unerringly loyal to those he has sworn fealty to, willing to risk life and limb to see to their safety.

History

Gianavel was raised in a quiet home. Both his parents worked as informants for the Gienah Fraternity, and because of their careers, however dangerous, they were able to create a comfortable living environment for their son. However, a rat was their undoing; a citizen believing they were doing their country a service pointed out the couple. A few days later, they were killed in a "freak" accident. The now-orphaned Gianavel was sent to live with his grandparents, who had no clue their daughter and son-in-law had been affiliated with the Fratnernity. And so, in the quiet of a small town, a five-year-old son of assassin informants grew up, as unaware of the darker part of his family.

Even at a young age, Gianavel was a quiet one. He never really spoke to anyone except his grandparents, and kept mostly to himself. Though his introverted nature worried many of his teachers, but it was also very clear since his childhood that he was a gifted child. He picked up on many things at a much faster rate than any of his peers; by six he had the vocabulary expected of a child twice his age, and was the top of his classes. His only drawback was his inability to make friends, often singled out for his reticence and apparent giftedness. Indeed, he was often bullied, but whenever he was questioned about it, his only excuse would be that he had accidentally injured himself.

This seemed to change when he was sent to Alioth for page training. Moving into a new city, Gianavel was given the chance to start over. And start over he did. The boy dared to step out from the shell he'd created for himself all through his childhood, and soon had created friendships with a small group of fellow pages. Though Gianavel continued to outshine the others, these friends did not seem to like him less for it. For three years of his life, Gianavel felt a joy and relief to be accepted for whom he was. Alas, not all that glitters is gold. Near the time of the squire exams, he was returning from the library to his classroom where he was studying with his friends. Outside the door, he overheard their conversation; in the end, he was merely being used as a reputation booster for these so-called "friends" of his. As expected, he immediately retreated back to his solitude, and entered high school friendless once more.

His squire years were almost a repeat of his childhood ones. Alone, he kept to himself, still topping most everyone else in academics, arts, and athletics. The only difference was that he was no longer the object of bullying. This fate fell on a singular girl who was, in many ways, similar to Gianavel himself: a quiet, shy individual whose performance in whichever fields she partook in rivaled that of Gianavel's. At first, he ignored them, happy to stay in his little world. However, the bullying got progressively worse, and finally, unable to stand the unjust treatment of a girl, he intervened. In his anger towards the others' cruelty, he lost control and nearly strangled a student while hospitalizing several others.

The results were devestating. Though he was officially penialized with suspension, his peers turned their harsh treatment onto him, portraying him as a delinquent and making his life miserable. Gianavel held onto the belief that he had done right to defend the girl, until he realized that she, without any ounce of remorse, turned her back on him along with the others. It was the final straw; hurt by the multiple betrayals, Gianavel closed himself off entirely, leaving the city and the way of knighthood to return to his grandparents.

Not long afterward, his parents' past caught up to him. It came in the form of a letter asking for an interview from a business group he'd never heard of. Uncertain but hoping that the interview would lead to a job to support his family, Gianavel went to the location given. Upon his arrival, he was confronted with four men, all of whom attacked him and were beaten. His client then approached him, proclaiming that he had passed the test and offered him the job as an assassin. Without anything better to say, Gianavel agreed, and so began his life as a member of the Gienah Fraternity.

Said life wasn't difficult. As it had been with the other aspects of his life, he rapidly picked up on the skills necessary to survive the new world he lived in. Although he now lived constantly in the potential of being discovered or killed, Gianavel found that he rather enjoyed moving about so often. Under different pseudonyms, he used his career to forget the burdens of being "Gianavel", and was able to support his grandparents' lifestyle untill they passed on from old age. Rumours began to circulate that he would become the next Men Alphard due to his incredible skill.

Of late, however, his recurring dreams of a strange alien world had grown more frequent, along with a foreboding, ill feeling towards the Fraternity. Secretly, he broke all ties with the group and fled, knowing that sooner or later the repurcussions of his actions would catch up to him. Taking up various hired hand jobs, he has been wandering aimlessly throughout Tolem since, always on the lookout for any from the Fraternity looking for his head.
