As an only child.  Vivian was the daughter of a couple of lawyers who urged and begged for their daughter to get into law, but the subject really just bored her.  She had been sent away for private schooling under the subject but it only lasted a few weeks as the girl continuously left her dorm late at night to be found laying on top of the roof of the school shed.  Upon returning home, her parents were a mess.  They were arguing about who's fault it was that their daughter didn't succeed at such a prestigious school, who was the one that didn't raise her properly and the like.  It all ended in divorce and the still minor child being left in the midst of a custody battle.  In the end, one of her Aunts on her father's side stepped up and took the girl, deeming that neither parent were in proper state of mind to care of the girl; the courts agreed.
So now, Vivian has been living with her Aunt and Uncle for the past seven years in a small rural community in Massachusetts.  She gets to walk to school now, as well as participate in sports, help out on the family farm and she even got her license when she came of age.  Even for being such close family, these two were different than her own parents.
Her Aunt and Uncle had been trying even before Vivian was born to have a child, at her birth she became their godchild and since moving in she has been having the time of her, well, mostly uneventful life.  She gets to go fishing on occasion, which was something her Uncle had begged for her to try, and she loves swimming in the lake in her backyard during the summer and playing in the snow in the winter.

Even with the thought of graduation looming, Vivian is having a hard time in even considering this place she now calls home.  She works, writing the astrology and space section of the local newspaper and continues helping out on the farm.  During the summers she also managed to land a part-time job at a local marina re-fueling boats.  She doesn't make too much, but she's been saving, she doesn't know what for, but she has been.  Her Aunt and Uncle however, fear that she may not wish to pursue anything beyond the little ranch and had insisted on her looking into more education.
