Welcome to the Black Tower. Mind the traps, we need to discourage those adventurers somehow. You know, city folk in the shiny clothes? They come in droves to take our stuff, so we’ve got our little army. But if fighting’s not your bag, per’aps you’ll want to build up our little castle? Anyway, I’m sure you’ll fit in with here, just be polite to the dragons, they’re bit temperamental...
[Note: this is a work in progress at the moment so things can change if they aren't working. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to message me. I'd like some feedback before I get this started. Also open to having someone be a co-GM.]
Rules
No godmoding/powerplaying. Everything has a weakness
Respect your fellow monsters. Monsters can have rivals but ask the player if that’s okay with them. If it seems like it might be out of line, ask first.
Past tense is preferred. If you want to write prose, go for it. If you’d rather do :action: “speech,” that’s cool too.
Fighting will involve rolling dice. When you finish describing your turn, roll a 20 sided die and post the result. GMs will do the same for enemy NPCs. Please be honest with recording your rolls. If you beat the NPC’s defense score, congrats, narrate your victory! If you don’t, they still take damage but beware, they may be able to retaliate.
If you want to roll for anything else (searching a place, finding an item, and things along that line), you can include your roll at the bottom of your post, or message a GM.
You can use a character journal to keep running tabs on how much of your HP is left and what spoils you’ve earned.
If you want to be a monster that isn’t listed, PM with a description of strengths and weaknesses. Look over the monsters below, feel free to use one as a template.
Background
The monster’s den is just that: a big old castle claimed by us, the fiends of the world. If you’re here, and not presently having your bones chewed, you’re probably a monster too.
Two wings of the castle are pretty much run by the big bosses. Try not to get on their bad sides.
We have a dungeon too, for you creature that can’t abide the light. It’s nice and homey.
We’re always looking to expand. Maybe if we build a moat those damn people will stay out.
The big bosses sometimes get missions from the BIGGEST boss of all. If we can successfully complete them, we gain influence in these parts.
Watch out for adventurers and the like:
Commoner: 4 defense
Rogue: 10
Magic User: 8
Knight: 12
Legendary Hero: 14
Characters
Here are some potential monsters. Everyone starts with 10 hitpoints. Strength/Will/Speed showcase individual monsters' strengths and weaknesses (with 10 being average. So that would make kobolds like the jack of all trades, master of none. Other monsters may specialize)
Minotaur: You’re a big strong brute aren’t ya? Bet those horns strike fear into the hearts of men.
Minotaurs are capable of great feats of strength. They can wield weapons larger than an average man could carry and can charge an enemy with their horns.
Strength: 13 Wisdom: 7 Speed: 10
Harpies: Don’t ever call a harpie “chick,” mate. They’ll dive at ya with those razor talons.
Harpies’ feathered arms are tipped with claws filed to a point. Their feet end in talons that can grab at prey.
Strength: 7 Wisdom: 10 Speed: 13
Devil: Magic or swords, you could be good at either. You also have a decent chance of passing for a person.
Devils can look almost human, but even then they have some trait that gives them away. Skilled in both weapons and arcane arts.
Strength: 11 Wisdom: 11 Speed: 8
Kobold: A dragon’s favored minions. If you please your lord, he might reward you with a breath weapon.
Kobolds are small, quick lizard-like creatures. They form large societies with different roles: warrior, scout, shaman. Generally revere dragons.
Strength: 10 Wisdom: 10 Speed: 10
Vampire: You’re half the reason townsfolk fear the night. We’ve got a lovely set of coffins for your kind in the basement
Enhanced senses, strength, speed. Must feed regularly and never see sunlight.
Strength: 11 Wisdom: 8 Speed: 11
Werewolf: And you’re the other half. Maybe you’ve been turned away from society, but not here. Embrace your feral nature.
By the light of the moon your inner beast comes out, and you enjoy the sensory experience and strength of that beast. Your strength is diminished during the day, but there are advantages to looking human. And having thumbs.
Strength: 10 Wisdom: 7 Speed: 13
Lamia: Half woman, half snake, all beautiful. You lure men to their doom with a song.
Lamias possess beautiful voices they use to charm people and are generally skilled with magic.
