Lightbulb [Getting Featured] - How to become a Featured RPG

The Featured RPs bar is a great way to advertise your game. This scrolling bar is on the major traffic areas of the site and will be seen by virtually every user on the site multiple times a visit. But how do you get Featured? This guide will give you the general rules for it.

There are two ways to get featured: Get picked by the staff or Donate for the time.

***** This guide will be revised after we see how things work in actual practice rather than in premise.

    Getting Picked to be Featured
These are the current standards to qualify you to be Featured. These standards will likely change over time, but we’ll be up-front about having adjusted our standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Game must have a non-default thumbnail.
    • Game must have a good and accurate description and understandable Overview section.
    • Game has accurate tags.
    • Game cannot have been Featured in the last 30 days.
    • Game must be a full-featured game. (Forum games cannot be featured using the system, sorry.)
    • At least one staff member has to look it over and think, “That’s a cool game!”

To put it another way, the staff will be roaming through the site and looking for games that fit the minimum requirements and seem like a game that people might like to play. Obviously, things such as having a really good layout and great, very active players, and well-written posts help a lot. But we’re not ruling out stumbling upon a game that only just opened, but has a great premise or games that have only semi-active players. Games run or played by staff members are not disqualified.

    Benefits
    • You get exposure!
    • Your game will be featured for 7 days (Monday - Sunday).
    • You get a 3 - 7 sentence review posted in the Announcements section in a “This Week’s Featured RPGs” thread.
    • Your game will be listed in the “Previous Featured RPGs” thread in the Advertising and Recruitment forum, organized by season.

    Donating to be Featured
The problem with getting picked is you can’t guarantee that you will be. The bigger the site gets, the harder the minimum requirements will become. But if you Donate to be Featured, you are guaranteed to be Featured!

    How it Works
    • Send a Donation to the site for 2.50 USD for each week you would like to be Featured. (Weeks will be consecutive unless specifically requested otherwise.)
    • A 10.00 USD donation will guarantee your Feature for 5 weeks. (Weeks will be consecutive unless specifically requested otherwise.)
    • After you have made your Donation, send a PM to Knerd who will verify the donation and queue whatever game you want to be Featured in the rotation.
    • Your Feature will start the following Monday after your donation was made and all details were clear.

    Benefits
    • Your game does not have to meet the Minimum Requirements above! (Except the one about being a full-featured game.)
    • You choose the week(s) you’re Featured!
    • You choose which game(s) are Featured!
    • You will get a paragraph review (minimum of 7 sentences) posted in the Announcements section in a “This Week’s Featured RPGs” thread.
    • Your game will be listed at the top of the month’s section in the “Previous Featured RPGs” thread.
    • If your game has poor tags or a poor summary description, the staff will offer assistance in adjusting it.
    • You’ve helped keep the site alive and help us to save towards getting the next cool feature! Kudos!

    Tips on Being Featured
So now that you know the minimum requirements, maybe you’d like some tips in what the staff are looking for when they look for games to Feature? Every staff member’s preferences are different in what they think makes for a “cool game”. But here are some universal truths:

    • The summary description of the game is intriguing and makes them want to know more.
    • The Overview section is well-written, free of major typos, and organized so the information is easy to find and easy to read.
    • The plot/storyline or overall premise for the game seems like it has had thought put into it.
    • The group seems to welcome new players and not make it unreasonably difficult to join the game.
    • The group seems active.
    • The content is appropriate for the game’s rating level. (ie: We make sure that General games don’t have adult content. Adult games forbidding any adult content is just as bad.)

    More tips to come.
Please do not send this account PMs/etc. It is not monitored daily by staff and does not accept PMs/etc.
