"...And the Prince and the Princess lived happily ever after!"
I closed the book
Caressed her hair
She was already fast asleep
"I love you Mommy! Read me a bedtime story!"
That was the last thing she had said to me
So I tucked her in
Gave her her cough sirup
She had a little cough
And started reading
Came morning and she still wasn't up!
So I took her in my arms
And carried her outside into the sunshine
And let go
The amount of opium had been right
She fell in the hole with a thud
Better fill it with earth right away
My tomatoes will be delicious next year
I'll be sure to win the prize
Especially with the pity points
for the poor woman whose daughter ran away
And I'll never have to read another bedtime story
Ever again
