The only thing he could remember was the squealing of tires, the crash and the screams.

Mostly the screams. In fact, the one that had come from his own mouth was one that sounded much like a girl's. He reminded himself to try to remedy that.

Nickola opened his eyes. A well-dressed woman sat on a car across the room with a patch of white hair. Without his glasses, that's all the man could see without his spectacles. Where are my glasses? was one of his first coherent thoughts as he pushed himself up in the hospital bed. Everything seemed fine, minus some aches and pains that he could feel throughout a good portion of his body.

A man, a rather tall one at that, walked in wearing a long white coat. Why is everything white here?

"Good afternoon Mr. Brynn." he said, scurrying around the room in search of something. When he found what he was looking for, he scooped it up and cradled it in his arms. He observed it for a moment before looking back at Nikola.

"It seems that you're actually just fine. Just a few very minor fractures in your ribs and wrist. You shouldn't brace yourself when in a car accident." the man studied Nikola for a moment before realizing something. He went across the room and came back with something, handing it to the man in the hospital bed.

Nikola took the thing that was given to him and looked over it to find that they were his glasses. No more blurs for me! He opened them up and slid them on.

    "What happened to the driver?"

    "He died."

"Oh." Nikola went silent for a moment, looking down at his lap. "And the person in the other car?"

    "Alive. With some problems though..."

"But you aren't to tell me, hm? You've the confidentiality thing going on."

"Ah, yes sir. You'll be able to go visit her when she wakes up."

"I'd like to. Is that all, Doctor?" he asked.

The man nodded and then left.

    "He's a nice man."

The voice caught Nikola off guard, before realizing that it was of his mother.

    "Man doing his job."

    "But still nice nonetheless."

    "Yes mother."

The woman stood, clutching her little purse in her hands. "Well, my little Nikola, I have to go. I need to get some sleep, you know? Little old ladies don't fare well without sleep."

"Yes mother. I will see you later." He was glad that she was leaving. He wanted some time to try to recollect his thoughts. Decide on whether or not to go visit the girl.

The woman smiled wanly before leaving, closing the door behind her with a loud "CLICK".

"Olive..?" She heard the voice of a familiar friend speak to her. There sat her best friend holding her hand her expression sick with worry."Mali..What's going on? Why do you look so worried?" She asked before blinking a few times letting her eyes come to focus. Her surroundings were white. Her mind automatically clicked to where she was at. The hospital? Why am I at the hospital? "You were in a car accident." She spoke softly sitting in the seat closest to her bed. "I see...So that's why My head hurts so much." Just then the doctor had just stepped into the room looking at her chart. "Well Miss Drake we have good news and bad news. What would you like to hear first?" He asked. She swallowed hard feeling a lump in her throat, her nerves acting up on instinct. "That..bad news." She said taking a deep breath in. Her stomach twisted in knots. She knew it wasn't good. Though then again when was bad news ever good?

"Well from the accident..you have no feeling in your legs. You are paralyzed Miss Drake." Paralyzed. It was something she never thought she would hear. The word kept repeating into her head, drowning out everything the doctor said. Everything Mali said. She was frozen with terror. Her skin even looked paler then it usually was. She weakly gripped onto the sheets on her lap. She could no longer do things herself. Now she had to have someone at her home at all times to help her. Olivia lived alone. Her family lived far away. And she hadn't talked to them in five years. How could she talk to them now of all times just to tell them she was paralyzed? No. She wouldn't call them. It wasn't right for her to do that. She would just have to manage on her own. Mali had her own career and studies to focus on. She definitely couldn't ask her. She would just have to do this alone, learn how to take care of herself. So what if she had no feeling in her legs. There was still plenty she could do right? She could still do all the artistic things she loved. As the doctor was going on telling her she was perfectly fine besides the no feeling in her legs, she interrupted worried about the other driver.

"What about..the other person. Is he okay?" She asked. "Well..the driver died. But the passenger is fine. He just has some minor fractures in his ribs and wrist." She would nod her head. "Well I will let you get some rest. You will need plenty of it." He says before leaving the room closing the door behind him.

"You can cry if you want Olive."

"Mali I am not going to cry."

She cracked a smile to her best friend. Being paralyzed yeah it terrified. Was she dead? No. It was just one of those things that happen for a reason in life. It wasn't impossible to fix. She had seen movies and shows where someone was paralyzed but then they learn how to walk again. It would definitely was going to be different when she would be released from the hospital and went back to school. People would probably call her a cripple or they would do something to make her feel like an outcast. She would lay back into her bed looking to her friend."Mali get some rest. It's early. And you were probably up all night studying or doing whatever it is you really do." She teased her.
"Oh Alright. If your going to judge me I will. But get some rest. When I find out who did this do you I will chew him out." Olivia just nodded in reply. And with that, she gathered her things leaving the hospital room.

"May I come in?" Nikola had knocked on the door quietly, around dinner time. He held two trays with food and wore the clothing that his mother had given him when she came by. Earlier, he had been given the okay to go, and was handed a prescription and told to take it easy. He had then asked to see the girl whom he had gotten into an accident with and was lead towards the her door.

He had stood outside for about two minutes, debating weather or not to actually go in, but then a nurse came by with a tray of food, giving him an idea. He went to the cafe and then bought two trays of the hospital food. It was then that he had the bit of confidence to knock.

Olivia could hardly put her mind and eyes to rest after Mali had left the hospital. The words continued to repeat in her head. Being paralyzed, it was a much greater deal then she wanted it to be. She couldn't help but think about the small details. How would she get dressed in the morning? Or do her normal routine? How would she be able to make herself a snack or meal? Thoughts raced through her mind constantly.

At least up until she heard a knock at her hospital room door along with a young man's voice. She snapped herself out of the panic state she was putting herself into and straightened herself up clearing her throat. "Come in." His voice was unfamiliar. Maybe it was a doctor. Or someone coming in with release papers? Whoever it was, she was interested to know who it was.

Nikola sucked in a large breath before walking in, looking down at the tray as he pushed over the door.

He looked up to see a familiar white room, with a similar window to his own, but there was a different tension, and equipment in the room. The bed, even, was more elaborate and more... electronic looking. It was then that he had seen the girl.

The first thing he noticed about her was her eyes. They were the brightest thing on her, and they stood out against her pale hair and skin. His breath caught in this throat, as did his words. The woman looked so broken, and sickly. He couldn't help but feel as if it really was his fault that she was like that.

"H-hi. I'm Nikola Brynn..." he cleared his throat. "It was my driver that... Caused this..." he stood in the front of the room, still baring the trays.

"This may sound pretty bad, but I was hoping that we could have lunch together." he offered a meek smile, unable to make eye contact with the woman.

She could tell he was nervous by how his words got caught in his throat in the beginning of his sentence. She thought it was kind of cute. It reminded her of her brother when they were younger he would be nervous to talk to any girl. Well Any girl except her. "Nice to meet you Nikola Brynn. I'm Olivia." She paused. "Olivia Drake. But some people just call me Liv or Olive." She said her tone soft but sweet. She wasn't going to be bitter to nice people offering help just because she was in a terrible accident and paralyzed from it. Seeing how he brought food for both of them to eat together, she smiled a bit.

"Lunch sounds great. What are we having?" She said with a smile, brushing a strand of her blond hair behind her ear. Hearing how he was the one that caused the accident, she shook any negative feeling she felt. "I see. Well I know it was an accident. I also heard that your driver didn't make it. I'm very sorry for your loss. I feel it was partially my fault in this. I was so focused on not being late for a test at school I didn't pay close enough attention to the road." She admitted. Well at least I don't have to take that test. She thought with a slight sigh of relief. Even though she was the one who was paralyzed from the accident she felt guilty for the accident. She didn't want him to blame himself. Especially once he would learn her condition she is in.

A part of her wanted to blame him and only him for this situation she was in. It was his fault that she was paralyzed. Or better yet his driver's fault. But she knew he wasn't the driver, therefor she couldn't blame him but She blamed herself as well. Did he know her condition? Would he ask?

"Hospital mush. To be honest, I have no idea what it is." he chuckled and walked over to the bed, placing the plates carefully down on the table on the other side of the room before grabbing a chair and pulling it over to the side of the bed. He then went back across the room, albeit awkwardly, grabbed both trays once again and then sat down, placing one in his lap and holding one out to the girl he now identified as Olivia.

"School?" he asked. "May I ask what your studies are?" He attempted to make conversation, picking up a plastic covered fork and digging it into the mush before realizing that it was covered. He felt like an idiot and cursed at himself mentally before pulling the plastic off. He didn't feel like himself- calm, cool and collected. Everything just seemed off.

Usually, in situations such as these, he would not want to make any kind of contract with the other. It was just this time that he had felt guilty, and at fault for this entire mess. He theorized that maybe he just bumped his head. [i]Might want to go get that checked out later.

And most of all that bothered him was the fact that he had stuttered. He didn't, by any means, stutter. At all.

She giggled softly from his reply about the hospital food. He seemed to be a gentleman not to mention a bit of a comedian. She liked a guy who could make her laugh. Especially in a situation like she was in. She watched him curiously with her green eyes as he set up for both of them to eat their food. She twiddled with her thumbs as he pulled a chair to the side of her bed. It was nice someone didn't find her boring and actually wanted to get to know her yet alone eat with her.

Once he handed her the tray of hospital mush she took it. It was better then not eating right? She uncovered her food and picked up her plastic fork digging into her food almost immediately. It tasted different then she had expected. Oddly it didn't taste as bad as it looked. That and Olivia was starving. She hadn't eaten all day. She couldn't remember the last time she ate. Was it this morning? No she was in too much of a rush. It was most likely last night was the last time she could recall eating. "I go to an art school so Besides the basic classes I have art class though I also dance as dancing is a form of art. Though I will probably have to change out of my dance class now."

She found his whole being to be cute. Especially when he had stuttered and avoided eye contact. He didn't seem to be the shy type but how he acted said otherwise. Did he not talk to girls very often? Maybe he blamed himself for this whole accident. It was sort of an awkward situation. But she didn't and wasn't going to hold a grudge over a simple accident. She had seen things where paralyzed people had surgery and they could walk again. Maybe she would be lucky enough to see a specialist and walk again one day. The only trouble of that happening was money. She knew specialists probably cost a lot to see.

[so sorry for the late reply a lot has been going on]

"Wait, why would you have to transfer out?" Nikola asked, looking at Olivia from over the top of his glasses. His eyebrow quirked up and his interest seemed to pique. "I mean, if you're still paying for the course, and the whole medical bill business came up and you're worried about the cost, I'll pay your medical bill." he said it all nearly at once, each word just tumbling out of his mouth like a waterfall. It almost seemed as if he didn't have a filter between his mouth and his mind, but that was quite the opposite.

"But if that isn't it, then what is it?" So many questions, so many ideas being tossed about int he air at once, something that was always encouraged when in brainstorming meetings. And yet again, the inner voice growled at him- a bad idea for a moment like this.

She hesitated to even say those words to explain to him why she had transfer out. She didn't want him to blame himself. She stopped eating for a moment."Well That is only part of the problem. The bill is expensive but that isn't the whole reason why I have to transfer out. She started to twiddle her thumbs a little nervously trying to find the words to explain her situation. "The reason I have to transfer out is because the doctor told me due from the accident I don't have any feelings in my legs. But I don't want you to blame yourself. It's not your fault." She explained looking up to him with a smile so he wouldn't feel bad. "The loss of feeling in my legs, It could be temporarily or it could be permanent. If it's permanent I will have to go through therapy, and if that doesn't work I will have to see some sort of specialist most likely I presume. Though I will probably have to find a better living place so I can get around better since It will be harder to do that if I am in a wheel chair." She giggled softly trying not to make him feel bad.

She looked back down at her food and took a few more bites. Knowing she could be paralyzed her whole life was now starting to sink in. Who would ever want to date a girl in wheel chair? Many thoughts raced through her mind. She had stopped eating to look up at Nikolai hoping that he wasn't upset at himself. "Is it alright if I can have some water? I don't mean to burden you." She felt horrible she had to have people do things for her. She use to be the person who put everyone's needs before her own.

Nikola had slowly put the spoon down and set his plate aside, knowing, that with that silence that the girl had left between answering, that there was going to be bad news. His listened carefully, his entire countenance nearly emotionless and when the girl asked about the water, he closed his eyes and sighed.

"It is just water, Olivia. It is not a burden, nor a favor. Just a request." he said, a little stiffly. The water pitcher was on the other side of the room, terribly placed by a nurse who had cleared the nightstand for the doctor's use. The man got up and grabbed the cool glass and its accompanying cup before pouring the water into the cup and holding it out for Olivia to take before he sat back down once again.

When fragile looking fingers were wrapped surely around the cup, Nikola withdrew his hand and took in another deep breath. He wasn't going to say it out loud, but when he spoke next, it was painstakingly obvious that he really did blame himself. The girl was a dancer, had a future in something that she was going to school for. And he managed to rip that away from her.

"Would you accept help from me? I mean... I can pay for procedures, therapy, whatever you need. I'm a stranger to you, I know, but I want to do it." He looked up at Olivia. "If you say no, I'm still going to pay for your medical bills today. That is one thing that I am going to do, unfortunately, without your permission." His gaze shifted back down to his food. "I just want to help with whatever I can."

Olivia just nodded, her eyes following him as he grabbed the cold pitcher of water pouring it into a cup before handing it to her. She took the cup of water with her petite fragile hands taking a sip of the water. Her mouth felt so dry. She was actually scared of the fact of potentially being paralyzed for years to come. There was no guarantee that a specialist could fix her "no feeling in her legs" problem.

"Nikolai you don't have to help me. I understand that I probably have put you in an awkward position." She didn't know what more she could say to make this whole situation better. But if someone wanted to help her not because they felt guilty but because they wanted to, she wasn't going to let that opportunity slip through her fingers. "If you want to help me you can. I'm not trying to turn down your offers to helping me but I just don't want to be a charity case. Like you feel you have to do something. But if you want to I wont stop you. She gave him a weak smile. She obviously didn't like the situation she had just put him in. She took a larger sip of her water before setting it down on the tray next to her food. She placed her hands in her lap gently gripping the sheets with her fingers, trying to calm her nerves. Her appetite had vanished rather quickly. She didn't touch her food again after the discussion of her situation.

Nikola was about to correct Olivia about his name, but as he was about to get the sentence out of his mouth, the phone that had been hidden in his pocket went off. He jumped some at the vibrations and with a practiced move, pulled it out. He checked the caller ID, finding it to be the presenter of the meeting that he was on his way to before he got into the crash. He sighed and hung up, knowing that the man would call back later anyway.

"I... I have to go. Can I give you my card? I can write my cell phone number on the back, so you don't have to deal with the receptionist, and you can call me whenever you are in need of anything. A procedure, therapy, a ride home, company, someone to help out with anything, please just call." he asked quietly. He had noticed that Olivia had gotten rather stressed about the situation as well, but Nikola knew very well that he would never understand the feelings (or lack thereof) that Olivia was having.

He patted his jacket pocket to find that his mother had put his card holder in it and pulled it out, slipping a card out. He then, at the sight of a pen on the nightstand, grabbed the pen and scribbled down in careful script his number. The card and the pen were then put back onto the nightstand.

"I have to go, Ms.Drake." he stood, pushing his chair back before standing. "I wish you the best of luck and please, do call me if you need anything." He bowed slightly, in respect and then left.
