Rules
THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This is an intermediate to advanced roleplay that will require all users to put forth extra effort when posting. Posts cannot fall below a minimum of two paragraphs that must consist of at least five decently structured and meaningful sentences. It is encouraged that all users be able to enhance and develop the story by bringing forth their own unique posting style and writing attitude. This does not mean, however, that you will be given free-reign to do as wished. This is a semi-rigid story with a set of paths that can be taken. Although the exact outcome and end result is not yet known, it is safe to assume that your GM (Xavirne) has incorporated a series of events that will produce some bizarre and probably unwanted scenarios.
Although this story is not an Adult-Rated roleplay, it does not mean that limits will not be pushed. When looking at all the movies out there and all those that fall into PG-13 category, you will see that there are some gray areas between what's PG-13 and what's R. For the sake of not getting in trouble, let's keep sexually explicit scenes from the story and try not to go too overboard with vulgarity or extreme gore.
Since this story as a limit on the number of characters, I do have the right to remove, alter, and add characters as I see fit. All changes will be announced to said affected person and, eventually, to the entire group partaking in the story. As of now, I reserve the right to review all persons interested in the story on a professional basis. Friendships will be overlooked so that we can get the best people to play the best rules. Should I find that you're unable to meet this rules or my standards, I will, kindly, ask you to step down.
For those who are gone for an extended period of time, I ask that you notify me prior to your leaving, unless such an action is not possible. If characters do not post within a set timeframe (determined by me), I have the right to move your character. Should you fall off the planet of the earth, I have the right to remove said character via slaying or DREAMLINK unplugging. When a character is removed, a replacement role will pop up. These roles will NOT be related or similar to the role previously lost.
It should be known that I, Xavirne, can make, change, alter or remove rules at any time. My word shall be the final say but it does not mean that you cannot question my authority. By all means, if you have a question or find something unfair, please express your interest. This story should be fun and entertaining for all those involved. If, at any time, you have an issue or a concern, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'm all ears whenever you need them (well, eyes since I can't hear you over the computer or anything).
Now, without typing up another million things, I have a minor thing that needs addressing. HAVE FUN.
Xavi is a bullshitter and just wanted to make scary rules scary. She's really not THAT bad. In fact, so long as you try, have fun, and make someone interesting and entertaining, she don't really care because she's awesome like that. :3 And she totally doesn't speak in third person. Nope. Not at all.
The rules, in a nutshell. Be able to post two paragraphs and contribute to the story. Make awesome character and stay in communication with me when confused, lost, or bored. Play nice with others. Respect me. Give me forewarning when you'll be gone. If you poof (like legit poof for a three months), I will remove your character and allow a new character (nothing like yours) to join the story.
Background
People have always wondered what lays outside the truth of
reality, wanting to know not where our bodies went, but where minds - or
souls - traveled to. When die, do we split apart of those grounded
corpses and become something else? Become a part of a world that no
living creature has even actually lived to see?
Who's
to say there's not life after death? Who's to say that the body is
only reborn once? Who's to say life is complicated and impossible to
understand?
The world is surrounded by of
questions, ceaseless questions, that further beckon our curiosity to
breech the limits of our mind's ability.
The
year is 2471. Earth is but a distant memory now. We, the people, left
our planet hundreds of years ago. We found a new place to call home; a
place that offered just as much as Earth, if not... more. How so?
Easy, you could see things that weren't really there.
It
was discovered that a rift in time and space separated the truth from
fantasy. Scientists and researchers spent years trying to figure out
the link between the two, but no answer was ever found. I guess, in the
end, the truth will always be a mystery. That is until recently.
As
of late, the line between them seems to have faded. We're able to do
something no one has ever done before - split from our bodies and enter a
world that man has never experienced.
Through
the use of the most technologically advanced devices, we are able to
isolate the genes and memories that link our minds to our bodies. With
much time and precision, we were able to build something that allowed
our bodies to enter this "No Living Realm." But, to do this, you had
to... die. Now, most people would beg to differ on this statement.
Would you want to purposely die to enter a world you would land in with
your own due-natural time? In other words, would you die ahead of
schedule for that you could experience this world?
We thought not.
Thus
began the endless sea of paperwork and mountainous amounts of research.
Piece by piece and step by step, we cracked the code to the world.
Granted,
there is still one flaw to the logic that allows you to enter. Once
you enter, you cannot return or at least not without... beating the
game.
Funny, isn't it? Life, in a sense, has
always been a game. And now, when you step back and look at it all, it
seems that life is just playing a cruel trick on us. Life is probably
laughing at us and calling us foolish for thinking that we could
actually win this game. But, life forgot one thing. One universal
thing. We all want to live.
Heh, I guess it
slipped my mind some. I should probably let you know that there is a
virus that is killing us all. Slowly, one by one, humans will become
extinct. You see, we really don't have a choice but to accept life's
challenge. If we want to live, we have to fight. We have to enter this
game and we have to win.
However, there are
some... complications. Not just anyone can enter DREAMLINK. DREAMLINK
is the name of the alternate world that we must enter. Think of it like
a computer game. You pick a team of set number, you throw them up
against the strangest of odds, and then, you wish for the best.
Granted, there is no button mashing in this world. It's all about
careful calculations and a genius mind. Sound resolution and a hearty
gut, too.
DREAMLINK can only upload nine individuals at a time. That means only nine people can enter the world
can be graced with extraordinary powers and might. Still, thought,
it's like a game. You can't wield a sword if you don't have adequate
enough strength. Ah, yes, you can see our dilemma.
DREAMLINK isn't that hard though. It can be cracked and it can be cheated. As always, our mind can prove most wondrous.
Now
that you know what lays in your wake, DREAM, will you steep forth and
put your name into the data list? Will you allow your number to be
called and will you join the game?
DREAMLINK is calling....
Characters
There are no more than nine roles available for this game; however, not all nine need filling. This game is able to run with just five. With that being said, characters will be taken on a first come/best serve basis. If there is a role you really want but see that it's already taken, please PM me and we can discuss it.
Odds are, at one point or another, someone will group sick of the game. When this happens, the role will be removed and replaced with something else.
At this time, one role per person. This is a long-term story so created characters should be well thought out. It is my hope that they will grow and develop throughout the course of the story, which will allow you, the roleplayer, a chance to grow and mature as well.
Again, should you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here for you.
Thanks for swinging by and I hope to see you in... DREAMLINK.
THE LEADER // Reserved by a91nicole
Head of operations and the one in charge. When things get ugly, this is your go-to person. They are strong and level-headed. Pretty intelligent. Is known to follow his/her heart rather than gut/mind.
>> Weapon: A chain-link sword that can serve as a whip (two for the price of one)
THE TANK// Reserved by Thelonepotato
The muscle for the group. When things get tough, this is the one you count on to save your ass. Tends to be edgy and cold, but think nothing of it. Also very blunt and to the point. No bullshit kind of person. All in all, a decent fellow.
>> Weapon: AK-47 and a pair of machetes
THE SUCCUBUS // Reserved by Avarice
The demon of the group. She is a wild card and a ticking time bomb. Highly moody but very strong. Also your best navigator. Has a habit of flirting and not taking the game seriously.
>> Weapon: Nails/claws and a throwable battle fan
THE DOC// Reserved by Amy3173
The medical expert of the group. When in doubt, seek this one out. The smartest one of the lot and probably the most diverse one, too. Has a bit of a cocky attitude and loves to joke around.
>> Weapon: Scissors and a shotgun
THE ROGUE// Reserved by XfrostguardX
The so-called spy gone bandit of the group. This individual is your 'ninja' and go-to person when stealth is required. Highly trained and very deadly. Only issue with this character is the preppy personality as well as his/her loud nature. Very vocal, too.
>> Weapon: Katana and throwing knives
THE UNKNOWN // Taken by Xavi
The mysterious teammate. This character is highly secretive and seems to have a split-personality of sorts. Highly unpredictable and you can never guess which side this one's fighting on. Overall, this person is wealth of knowledge and seems to be hiding something big.
>> Weapon: Bow and arrows and a longsword
THE RIDER// Reserved by SUPERKICKS
The one who controls all the toys. When you're in a pickle, this character will be there in a jiffy to bail you out. Knows his/her shit when it comes to machines and vehicles. Street smart and handy, this individual is often recognized as second-in-command. Highly dependent and very thoughtful.
>> Weapon: Spear and explosives
THE KIDD// Reserved by Sure2HerWorld
The youngest member of the group. The Kidd, although young, is a prodigy among his/her teammates. Insanely brilliant but very unorthodox, this character has a fear of all things not deemed natural. Paranoia runs his/her life but it is that fear that makes the Kidd so entertaining (although, he/she is actually a serious individual who is mature beyond his/her years).
>> Weapon: Frisbee (x2) and Kendama
THE BEAST// Reserved by Schizophrenic
The wild one. This character is, by far, the craziest mo-fo you've ever met. Fast, sneaky, and a daredevil through and through, this individual proves his/her worth with a wide skillet. In a sense, this character is a mix of all the others. He/she is also able to control animals, per creation, with the tablet and brush.
