The American Open School for Young Wizards and Witches
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Students: AOSY students range from 11 to 17 years old, as it is world wide. The engagement letter is sent by Owl Post to every young wizard at their 11 birthday.
Academic term: The School year is similar to any other American school, beginning in the 1st of August, with two weeks of recess during end-year Holidays, and ending on June 1st.
Arriving: Now a day, the easiest way to arrive at AOSY is by using the air transportation provided by the School. Each student is oriented to meet the Guides at Platform 18 at Philadelphia's Airport. For an ordinary muggle, Platform 18 is always locked due to inadequate condition, although any Wizard knows it is only a matter of walking through it. AOSY provides a large group of Weagles, the magical Eagle, which measures up to twenty feet and, equipped accordingly, can transport ten people at a time, plus the flier.
Factions: Every student is divided in the School by their families' political background. Loyalists and Patriots are the traditional parties and although a certain sportive dispute is encouraged, the School does not tolerate aggression, disrespect, or bullying. Students are advised of the party they belong on their Engagement Letter.
Grounds: The School Hall, classrooms, study rooms, medical wing, library, faction meet points (specific, hidden rooms at the main building that can only be found by members of specific faction), gardens, and all other lands not otherwise stated are to be fully enjoyed by students. The main Kitchen is of exclusive access of House Elves, and the Professor's building is not to be entered unauthorized either.
Dormitories: The girls dormitories are located at the East wing, while the boys' dormitories are at the South. No trespassing of the opposite gender after curfew hour is allowed. At every dormitory there are two kitchens (one for each faction) and three living rooms (a big, common hall and two smaller living rooms for each faction). Every bedroom has two beds, and roommates are paired within factions. A Loyalist will not "bunk" with a Patriot, although pairs of different parties can neighbor on the same floor.
Library: The Library stays open all day and night, encouraging even the night owls. There is books forbidden for students under certain ages, with "no-trespass" spells in the aisles to avoid sneakers.
School figures: Many Ghosts and other strange creatures inhabit the School buildings and its gardens. Students are advised to be aware of their presence but avoid being too friendly towards them.
