Name: Joey
Age: 19
Species: Human (Muggle ;) )
Personality: Quiet, intelligent, hopeful, and adaptable.
Looks: Joey has dark brown hair that hangs around his hazel-green eyes. He is rather average, though he is toned from constantly running from the war that has ravaged the world.
Astoria was sick, sick to her stomach from all of the fighting. She just wanted peace. In the beginning, she was all for the war. She hated Muggles. But this war has cost so much. And she had to escape.
Joey was independent, but the other kids weren't s easy going. Most orphaned by the war, other runaways. Some were very right or left wing about the war, wanting to rid the world of wizards or wanting rid the world of war. Most simply didn't care, and simply wanted a chance at life again. Joey was like that. He raced down what once used to be a street block, hiding behind rubble and under cars, darting between them.
Astoria packed a bag of everything she would need, using an extendable charm so she could fit anything in the tiny bag. She snuck out of her house and broke through the protection barrier before heading out. She kept her wand close, and she could see her breath in the cold night air.
Looking for anything was hard, especially food. The soldiers were selfish, wizards cursed anything in plain sight, and everyone was willing to kill one another for a loaf of bread. Most others had escaped to refugee lands, but Joey didn't believe those truly existed. He climbed under a rubble pile into an old basement, prying open a pantry. He stuffed his bag with what he could find; canned corn, old, dusty saltines, and some peanut butter. He slipped back out and began to run, when he slammed into something-or someone, landing on his back.
Astoria gasped when someone suddenly slammed into her and she fell back, hard against the pavement. She groaned as pain shot up her shoulder. "Ow.." She groaned, sitting up and raising her head to glare at the person who knocked her over.
It was difficult to identify wizard and humans from one another, but nowadays it didn't matter, everyone was a threat. Joey sat up and hid his backpack behind him, starting at the girl in front of him,"I'm sorry..."
Astoria picked herself up and dusted herself off. "It's.. Fine." She answered, glancing down at him. She tucked her hair behind her ear as she studied him. He seemed to have been on the run for a while. She sighed before holding her hand out to him to help him up.
Joey hesitated, but kindness was so seldom that it was worth taking when you get it. He took her hand and got to his feet, the crackers crumbling out of his bag. "Damn it..."
Astoria decided to take pity on the boy, so she opened her bag and took out some bread, handing it to him. Was he a wizard or Muggle? She didn't dare ask, because it's quite dangerous to do so.
Joey started at the bread, hesitant. A helping hand is nice, but bread? "Where did you get that? Is it cursed?"
Astoria rose her eyebrow. "No, it's not cursed. It's just bread. Take it or leave it." She thrust it into his hands before walking away, adjusting her bag on her shoulder.
"Wait!" Joey caught up to her, walking beside her,"Where did you get bread? And why would you just give it away? Are you crazy?"
"How about you mind your own business? It doesn't matter where I got it. And I gave it away because I'm a nice person. But I can turn mean real quick." She said harshly, not slowing down.
"Obviously,"Joey muttered, shaking his head,"Well, the other kids will appreciate this. It's more than we see in a week, so...thanks." He then stopped walking, staring at her. How could she not know how rough this was? How much a loaf of bread could change things? She must be a witch...
Astoria stopped as well and turned to look back at him. "You're welcome." She could sense his suspicion. She has to go. "See you." She turned the corner and went towards the woods, which is her best bet.
Joey knew he probably wouldn't see her again, that's just how it all worked. So, he headed back to the escape he had built with the other kids. It was a giant rubble pile with a basement underneath. He crawled in, a few faces were gone, a few new ones were there. No one stayed but him.
Astoria went into the woods and found a nice little clearing. She opened her bag and pulled out a tent. She put it up with magic. The outside looked tiny but the inside was huge.
The other kids didn't trust the bread either, but once Joey had some the other were more than happy to fight for the biggest chunk. Joey sat back and let them have his share before deciding to go back out, he needed to eat too.
Astoria put a few protective enchantments around the area, then she sat in front of the tent and started a simple sire. She sat close to it, shivering slightly. It was freezing cold. She reached into her bag and pulled out some beef jerky. She took a bite, sighing in relief as she finally got some food in her.
It was best to stay out of the city after day break. Too much fighting was going on at once. He escaped into the woods, the brush could hide people well, and usually he could find berries or something. And so he set out to do so.
Astoria was about to doze off when she heard a crack of a branch. She jerked awake and drew out her wand. She stood up and held it aloft, her brow furrowing. "Whose there?"
Joey heard a voice, but couldn't see anything but a glossy glimmer in the distance, and he quickly hid behind a tree. A wizard?
Astoria frowned and waited for another sound, but none came, only the cackling of the flames. She slowly lowered her wand and put it into her pocket.
Joey waited and when he didn't hear anything else he began his search again. The forest was pretty scavenged, and he sighed softly. If the war didn't kill him, starvation would.
Luna hummed softly to herself as she poked at the fire, keeping it up. Then she heard it again. The noise. She stood up, her heart racing again. "Whose there?" She yelled.
That voice... Joey knew it from somewhere, and this time he stepped into the open, still unable to see anything,"I'm only looking for food, I mean no harm,"
Astoria quickly hid her wand and frowned when she heard the familiar voice. "Come out in the open!" She demanded.
